| DESIGN NAME: Gem PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bag INSPIRATION: THEYKNOW acrylic Gem Bag is a multi functional fashion piece that draws inspiration from traditional cut gemstones found in fine jewelry. The team aimed to challenge people's perception of fine jewelry and gemstones by varying their size, enhancing their functionality, and breaking free from convention. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: One of the most unique features of the acrylic Gem Bag is its versatile chain that can be detached, disassembled, and recombined to create different wearing styles for various occasions. The team made the Gem Bag in translucent acrylic, allowing wearers to see what personal items they choose to carry inside, such as cosmetics, earphones, flowers, or even natural stones. The bag serves not only as a practical carrier but also as a captivating decoration, where the contents within become part of its aesthetic appeal. THEYKNOW want their wearers to feel empowered and authentic, expressing their individuality without boundaries. The Gem Bag is a must-have accessory for those seeking to make a bold fashion statement. Its distinctive design and versatile functionalities make it truly exceptional, ensuring it stands out as a remarkable addition to any wardrobe. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Operating the acrylic Gem Bag is simple and versatile. With its detachable metal chain strap, the bag can be worn in a variety of ways. The strap has multiple clasps that allow it to be adjusted for crossbody, top handle, or clutch style carrying. The strap can also be separated into three pieces, which can be used as a bag strap, belt chain, or even a necklace. This flexibility makes it easy to switch up your look and use the bag for different occasions. The multi-layerdesign of the strap also adds a touch of sophistication and style to the bag, while the freshwater pearl charm provides an extra element of elegance. Whether you're going to a formal event or a casual outing, the acrylic Gem Bag offers both functionality and fashion. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Design concept through production and distribution of Gem Bag was completed in 2020 from Shanghai. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Gem Bag is designed using a 3D file and molded from lightweight and durable acrylic using injection molding, and then polished to achieve a smooth finish. The metal chain strap is made from brass plated with platinum, which is strong and resistant to tarnishing. The chain is attached to the bag using metal clasps, and is adorned with a freshwater pearl for added elegance. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Bag: 110*110*40mm (L*H*W) Crossbody strap length: 112cm Top handle strap length: 41cm TAGS: THEYKNOW, gem bag, multifunctional bag, acrylic bag, crossbody bag, top handle bag, clutch RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research background for this project involved compiling technical knowledge from team members with experience in the jewelry industry and fashion houses. The team combined their technical expertise with market research to select the best materials and construction methods to ensure the bag would retain the sparkle and shine of gemstones while remaining functional for everyday wear and easy to manufacture. Through their research and testing, the team gained valuable insights into the materials and design elements needed to create a product that is both aesthetically pleasing and practical. CHALLENGE: Designing the Gem Bag presented challenges due to the use of transparent acrylic material and creating a versatile strap. The material's ability to translate the shine and sparkle of gemstones made it difficult to design and develop the interior components. Designing a strap with multiple functions presented a unique creative challenge. The team overcame these obstacles through experimentation and perseverance, resulting in a stylish and adaptable accessory.
