DESIGN NAME: The R Series
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Rack System
INSPIRATION: Product development, manufacturing and environmental technology are just three of the wide range of applications for automated measurement technology.
This results in a constantly growing technical sub-sector in a world with an increasing degree of automation.
To place the instruments of an automated system, sustainably and with a demand for design and technology, that is the goal and field of application of the product family of PROFECTRONICS, which has specialized in measurement automation since 2016.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The PROFECTRONICS rack design family is characterized by upward and downward compatibility within the product family.
In addition to the centered 19 inch rack system, the Rack R90 and Rack R180 also have one or two easily accessible installation spaces on each side.
These provide space for electrical switchgear assemblies, IT systems or similar.
Due to the design separation of the 19 inch core and the installation spaces, highly sensitive measuring devices can be combined with conventional electrical devices and all this in a single mobile system.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The R Series family is the base of test systems used in laboratories, in development departments, but also as end-of-line test systems for production lines.
The design of this equipment line focuses on functionality, simple operation and is conceived as a modular construction kit. Clear compact design and durability are the design criteria, the aim of which is based on "form follows emotional function". With a few simple steps, the respective modules can be placed or exchanged in the frame construction.
The same applies to the assembly and disassembly of the cladding parts, which facilitate service and maintenance work.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was launched in March 2021 in Linz, Austria. Starting with a single product the family was designed and developed step by step by the needs of our costumers.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The selection of materials is in line with our corporate philosophy
Engineered in Austria.
Produced in Europe.
Delivered worldwide.
The entire rack system was manufactured in lightweight aluminum. Lower weight and therefore reduced transport costs and Co2 savings justify higher manufacturing costs. Butt corners and surfaces are made of recycled PET-HD materials. The aluminum construction and the recycled plastic give the rack family a certain "heavy-duty" look, which, however, stands out as a fine mechanical and well thought-out construction element upon closer inspection or detailed solutions.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Rack R180 (BxHxT): (850 x 1800 x 650) mm
Rack R90 (BxHxT): (850 x 900 x 650) mm
Rack R30 (BxHxT): (500 x 300 x 400) mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Starting with old-fashioned but proven instruments, the first prototypes were sketched on paper and then manufactured in foam. When the first contours were in line with functionality and ergonomics, Solidworks was used as the CAD programme. From this point on, there was a balance between creative freedom and feasibility. The research was quite emotional. Especially in the research-intensive medical sector, design is quite popular. In the conventional production sector, on the other hand, design is often regarded as secondary. Accordingly, there are few competing products in this sector. This is certainly an advantage, as design is seen as a benchmark for future products.
CHALLENGE: The most difficult part of the design was ensuring functionality. For example, different areas in the rack must be hermetically sealed, shield electromagnetic radiation, waterproof, lightweight and at the same time ergonomic for all-day use. Use of special or composite materials at the expense of recyclability was out of the question.
