DESIGN NAME:
Reconstruction of Silver Inlay Zebu Cow

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
3D Visualisation

INSPIRATION:
Cast bronze, incised and inlaid with silver, zebu-cow suckling her calf while a lion attacks her back, made using the lost wax method, 13th century. But over time, the silver inlay has been lost. The main goal was to reconstruct the original appearance of the masterpiece.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
3D renders and 3D animation of the CAD model aim to represent a real bronze statue of Zebu-Cow with its original silver inlay in a showroom of The Hermitage Museum. 3D visualization of Zebu-Cow is the part of the research and restoration process.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The viewer notices the image on a screen and their interest is immediately captured by the true realistic image of the bronze Zebu-Cow Statue. The 3D visualisation consists of cad model with texture, silver inlay together with numerous renders and video files

The Hermitage Museum, July 2021-January 2023

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The bronze statue has been scanned and photographed. Examples of exhibits in similar techniques and the same historical period were explored. Than the high-quality draughtsmanships of engraving and inlay were performed. Finally, the 3D-reconstruction of the masterpiece was made. 3D animation, modeling, simulation, and rendering software were used during the creation of this 3D visualization, renders, and videos. Geomagic Design, Zbrush were used for the sculpting and rendering process together with Photoshop for creating some parts of images of the interior and Filmora for a video edit.

The statue is 35 cm high

Numerous exhibits in similar techniques and the same historical period were explored.

CHALLENGE:
The Zebu-Cow and its original appearance has been never created as a 3D model. Creating the texture and similar color of the real bronze statue and silver inlay and engraving followed by complex research for accuracy of the final images from historical perspective.

PROFILE:
Larisa Zolotova has been in the jewelery design business for years, focusing on incorporating unique modern, classical and organic forms into her fine jewelry creations. Her early designs were originally created in St.Petersburg, Russia in 2013, and later she continued her education to further develop her skills as a jewelry designer at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in Carlsbad, CA in 2016 and at the biggest Russian museum The Hermitage Museum in St.Petersburg
