DESIGN NAME: Bar Mori
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Interior Design
INSPIRATION: Imagine drinking to your heart’s content in a secluded tree cave in a forest. Sitting at the bar in a corner that belongs to you, staring silently at the starry sky, quietly tipsy, and enjoying stories and warmth in this sanctorum—this is the unique romantic touch and perfect relaxation the forest-themed bar-restaurant Bar MORI has to offer.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A newly-opened local bar-restaurant in Linkou, Bar MORI features a Japanese style with forest motifs. Its low-profile, sleek environment makes for a chic yet serene hangout space with a café feel.
Walking through a garden with lush vegetation and opening a glass door, you enter a transition hallway for a switch of setting, emerging from the hustle and bustle on the other side to a natural sphere of tranquility and elegance.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: What comes next is mystery and openness that feel like entering a forest, with the concept of a tree cave creating a visual contrast of front and back, in and out. In the bar section further inside, a cave-like image is made by lowering the ceiling, shaping a small zone where people can connect. In this way, imagery of people telling their secrets to a tree cave is turned into a heart-warming venue of chatting and sharing life with the bartender while dining and drinking tea.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in November 2022 and finished in December 2022 in New Taipei City, Taiwan.

Its design draws on the existing Japanese style and forest vibe, combined with unique details and motifs, forming for first-time visitors a memorable spot that is refined and invokes artistic conception.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The bar area has a ceiling height that gets lower further inside. Not only does it look like stepping into a secret sanctorum from an open forest, but it contributes to a unique color scheme of going from light to dark tones, creating a feel of going from the bright outdoors to the calming interiors. In this way, patrons, when dining and drinking tea, can feel as if surrounded by the tree cave and thus feel safe and laid-back.
CHALLENGE: The design is characterized by natural, rustic, original wooden furniture and low-back Japanese sofas, paired with vegetation as a finishing touch. In this way, greenness fills the interiors and is coherent with the forest theme, conducive to a wonderful experience of being in a forest under the star-studded sky embraced by nature.
