| DESIGN NAME: Sketch PRIMARY FUNCTION: Shelf INSPIRATION: The design inspiration of the shelf is the building steel skeleton under construction at the construction site. They are complex and orderly, order within chaos. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Designer combined line to create a space for storage by using algorithm. Line can be constituted methodically in chaos. Seen from a distance, it is a mess of lines, but it is actually a shelf. And these special shelf come out with not only answers of finding uncertainties, but also beauty of modern technology and art. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The shelf can hold things, crisscross lines can also hang things, and the top support leg can be exposed to hang clothes. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Designer discuss the application of digital design method to give the product a new form of research. First, we build a framework of product form we want, and then use grasshopper software to generate some shapes randomly. Designers adjust these forms according to ergonomics, aesthetics, etc., and choose the style suitable for industrial mass production technology, and finally present a work. Random forms are difficult to manufacture because they cannot be made directly after traditional engineering drawings. So we decided to break the whole into pieces of metal, and then connect the pieces. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 812 mm * 424 mm * 1630 mm TAGS: shelf, line, office, commercial furniture, art furniture, digital design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Digital design, a dynamic design style, pursuing uncertainties, can create a huge amount of variate by logical algorithm, as well as interact with human. Therefore, these random states and results of a new sense of openness bring people in certain environment more space of imagination, which we believe will change our way of thinking someday. CHALLENGE: Social perspective. It can challenge the public's understanding of traditional shelves. Technology implementation. During the design process, the computer will produce a lot of random structures, designers need to balance the relationship between these random forms and product forms. In addition, designers should balance these random forms with the realization of industrial mass production.
