PRIMARY FUNCTION: Mattress
INSPIRATION: In the world there are people who see and make things in a different way from other people and dream about making changes in aspects of life that really matters. All of them want to make a difference in this world. Every important project or task starts with a dream and those dreamers need the perfect place to start dreaming, a peaceful and comfortable mattress that reminds them how unique they are.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Is a mattress with an unique look, with rounded corners to remind us that going to bed should be smooth and relaxing. The stretch fabric easily contours to the body. Inside there are hundreds of minisprings made of high resilience foam that create independent resting minizones that vary their firmness along the mattress to provide the right support to each part of the body. Thru its interior spaces the air moves freely solving the ventilation problems that is present in most foam mattres.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The user only needs lay down and the mattress will work adapting to the body and providing the right amount of support. No matters if the person sleeps on its back, side or stomach the minisprings inside will gently compress and contour to the body helping to release pressure. In case the mattress would need to be move it is easy to do it because it is light weight but very resistant.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Started in 2019 and finished in 2021 in Mexico City.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design of the core and comfort layers were made applying ergonomic principles with CAD software. Using a CNC contouring machine each layer was cut in two dimensions from a high resilience polyurethane foam block. The layers are glued together with hotmelt adhesive. The cover was cut and sewn and it is made from polyester stretch fabric.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The goal of the project was to present an innovative type of mattress, starting from the design of the support system which was possible thanks to an ergonomic and mechanical analysis of a mattress. The support forces of the system were calculated according to the body’s weight distribution resulting in different comfort areas with different amount of support.
CHALLENGE: To find a way to make a mattress that was different from the average mattress and its look had to communicate this in the first impression. The design of the core or support system was challenging because it had to be functional and offer both support and comfort at the same time all these was possible selecting proper fabrication materials and using technologies like CAD software and CNC machines.
