| DESIGN NAME: Sofan PRIMARY FUNCTION: Folding Table INSPIRATION: With the changing dwelling lifestyle, the typical sitting culture furniture, such as Soban, is still frequently used in contemporary life. Furniture has always been a medium to showcase the human way of life, and we can understand that era's culture and social structure through furniture. The Soban has changed from a necessity with a transport and dining table function to auxiliary furniture in contemporary life. Therefore, the design of modern Soban needs to be reconsidered the culture and behavior of the users so that it can meet the modern lifestyle. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: By extending the structure of the traditional Chinese fan, the new tray is formed. The Soban can be rolled up for storage, which greatly increases the mobility of the small plate. The part of the table top can be created in different styles according to different materials. With different woods of table legs, it forms a variety of combinations of traditional and modern co-existence and has unlimited development possibilities. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: By folding the table, it is possible to achieve convenient storage of the table. The table can be used both indoors and outdoors depending on the variety of materials. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The table body material is made of toon wood, and the parts of the table top are separated by cnc cutting technology, and the different parts are linked by steel pipes inside. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 500mm * Depth 500mm * Height 260mm TAGS: Folding Table, Living Furniture, Nomadic Furniture RESEARCH ABSTRACT: By observing the life of Chinese residents in Beijing, we analyzed the living environment of Chinese people based on Noldus software, and after understanding the habits and daily needs of Chinese people, we studied the behavior of space, time, and users. It is found that mobility and portable furniture are the new needs of people, so the design of this furniture is proposed CHALLENGE: Through the analysis of the user's needs, the high repetition of user behavior resulting in the repetition of movement lines, as well as user storage problems and other furniture use characteristics , proposed to achieve the function of nomadic furniture through the Furniture Design Using Pattern. At the same time, combined with the design theory, the structure, function, and use form of the table are designed. Through several derivations, the size and structure of the “sofan” were finally determined.
