DESIGN NAME: The Pure Heart
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential
INSPIRATION: The client has two lovely daughters. To provide a place for the children, the design team took the mission of renovation. The site is on the first floor with limited window openings, lighting, and ventilation. The design team used a couch and penetration design to add a lively atmosphere. As for the choice of materials, the terrazzo is to provide the family with the purest carefree place.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The beams at the corner of the living room and the window resulted in the public area not forming a complete partition. The design team used a double step couch to allow the children to climb up and down, creating the theme of exploration. The coach is also sloped to echo the angle of the TV wall. The scale of the original TV wall is too large, resulting in the room becoming more constricted. The design team slightly reduced the scale of the TV wall and extended the vision with a slanting angle to increase the size of the living room. At the same time, the beveled facade seems to surround the living room.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The indoor lighting was cut into small blocks by a cross grille window while blocking the scenery of the small community garden outside. The design team met the clients desire to provide a space for their daughter to grow up with peace of mind, and the best environment for children is to return to purity. The design team used a comfortable couch as the core, with a view of the community garden, a view of the living room and dining room, and a view of the child enjoying the sunlight in the study room. By restoring the simplicity of life, the clients family will be able to experience a wonderful life.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in June 2021 in Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Building materials, wood grain HDP boards, metallic melamine, system cabinets, glass, baking paint, Soliboard, terrazzo, silicone lighting strips, and laminated glass. The terrazzo TV wall is based on a wooden facade with stone applied and polished on site. The holes and crevices of the terrazzo bring a colorful and warm atmosphere to the pure space. On the other hand, the design team painted a pastel pink throughout the room but added gold in the public area and gray in the private area. This idea neutralizes the pink visual and creates a perfect design for the whole family.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This project is on the first floor of a 20 year old apartment, with a total area of 82.6 square meters, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, and a dining room. The design team enlarged the living room and reduced the study room, and installed a U shaped glass window between the two areas to increase the lighting. The double step couch with a transparent window creates a lively environment. As for the TV wall, it serves as a partition and storage. The beveled wall directs the vision to the dining room, increasing the lighting of the space.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design team used penetrating and visually extending techniques, together with wood grain and terrazzo, to give the space the most comfortable atmosphere. The design team also used the couch and the U shaped glass window to increase the sense of exploration. On the other side, the beveled TV wall forms an embracing hand, and the interior design is warm and pure, bringing people back to their carefree childhood. The pink tones with gold and gray balance the childish atmosphere. The kitchen is decorated with gold melamine trim, and the TV wall with bright material can effectively extend the light source, like a shining 'sun'.
CHALLENGE: The space lacked lighting, with only a window facing the community garden on the first floor, and was a beam blocking the window. It was a challenge for the design team to weaken the beams and create a user friendly design. The double step couch is designed to meet the clients daily and storage needs. The beams and the couch form a 'box like' space for the children to play. With the reduction of window dividers, the view and lighting are significantly increased. And the casement windows solve the safety problem on the first floor.
