| DESIGN NAME: Perspective PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bookshelf INSPIRATION: For people to feel good about reading, books must be attractive again. Just as clothes displayed beautifully in department stores attract people's attention, bookshelves should also display books better. But this design didn't stop there and put a message on the furniture to remind people. There is a wise quote in Korea, 'Aneun mankeum boinda'. This means 'You can see as much as you know'. People can feel that the vision(insight) change as much as they know through the two opposing sides. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Even if you look at the same thing in the same space, people's perspectives vary. Knowledge is always relative. It is to compare two or more concepts and objects with each other, discover differences and reflect on their meaning. This bookshelf expresses the difference in people's perspectives. It visualizes the message 'You can see as much as you know'. While One side displays many books so that people can select among various books, the other side focuses on essential books as a recommendation for beginners. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The bookshelf can be securely fastened to the steel frame legs through screws. The height of the steel legs can be adjusted to suit your taste. People can display various and many books on the wide side of the bookshelf and emphasize recommended books on the narrow side. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in January 2022 in Seoul Korea and modeling was done in march 2022 in Seoul Korea. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The 3D model is made with Blender. The Final Mockup The bookshelf part is made with Bonded IPIL wood stained and varnished translucent. The transparent top plate is made with sanded acrylic. The leg part is made up of black-stained steel. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: (Entire size)1000 x 300 x 1270 Considered Korean average height (165cm) (Bookshelf size) 1000 x 300 x 270 Considered average novel book size, Korean Standard book size(152 x 223) (Leg size)1000 x 300 x 1000 TAGS: perspective, bookshelf, wood, furniture, shelf, kiwook, rha, transparent, book, read RESEARCH ABSTRACT: More than 50% of adults don’t read books anymore in Korea. In the past decade, the proportion of the "reading population" has steadily decreased from 61.8% in 2011 to 45.6% in 2021, and this trend is expected to remain at a certain level depending on the level of development of non-type media. People's interest in the reading activity itself has faded away. This is because books are not accepted as attractive enough to be chosen by customers in the rapidly changing world. CHALLENGE: In the course of history, books have played an important role as a recording medium that preserves the culture and history of society and conveys it to future generations. To solve the decrease in the reading rate, it is necessary to identify the fundamental cause and design a solution to it. At first, the main point was how to display the book coolly, but this design didn't stop there and put a message on the furniture to remind people.
