DESIGN NAME: QC60 Platform
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Quick Charger Stations
INSPIRATION: Almadesign together with Efacec engineering developed a distinctive design language, combining soft curves, lighting elements and different colors to make the product stand out in the urban landscape. The modular approach allows for different products to be developed on the same platform, namely 60kW to 120Kw charging power, simultaneous charging of up to 3 EVs in a compact footprint. The dynamic noise control improves the user experience and urban integration.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The qc platform is a 60-120Kw ultra-fast charger, capable of charging all electric vehicles. Reliable, robust and with flexible customization, the qc provides customers with several functionalities developed to keep up with the new technological and operational challenges of the energy infrastructure in the context of industry 4.0. With a modern design, featuring soft curves and brand lighting signature, the charger is enhanced with digital connectivity, reliability and high performance.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The QC platform offers fast 60-120 kW secured and proven charging process. After user identification, by simply choosing the charging standard compatible to the vehicle and coupling the charger’s output plug, the charging process will be fast secured and proven. The battery charging status is displayed and the charging cycle automatically finishes or can be terminated by the user. Different output options are available like CCS, CHAdeMO or AC, with different combinations like CCS-CHA-AC.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project had a duration of 20 months, in Lisbon, Portugal.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This project was developed between EFACEC engineering team and Almadesign design consultancy. The aim was to develop a modular platform for EV chargers, from the Hardware, User interface and network management tool. The project was developed through the use of CAD tools for design and engineering as well as prototyping in combination with several European suppliers. Focusing on design, reliability and performance, the QC family contributes towards a more sustainable digitalized future.
CHALLENGE: Efacec is known for its products contributing to the electrification of mobility. In order to prepare for digitalization and industry 4.0, Efacec worked together with a design consultancy to help bring a new modular platform to its product lineup. By combining perspectives from the design and engineering teams, considering modularity, user-interface and digital platforms, the electric mobility products will be crucial for a more sustainable world.
