PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Dressing Station

INSPIRATION:
Simplicity means uncluttered appearance, as well as the understanding of the essence and the function of product. As residences in cities keep shrinking in order to fulfill the demand, the furniture is highly responsible to improve the efficiency in space-usage in small properties.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Tale is a multi-functional and portable screen mirror with 3 panels, which can provide a temporary dressing station to users. Tale is perfect furniture piece for small residences and boutique hotel rooms, that user can use it in both bedroom and bathroom.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The mirror-panel can be rotated at 180°, with the accessories-tray beside and the shelf underneath, when Tale is expanded, it can provide a temporary dressing station to users.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in February 2020 in Hong Kong and finished in April 2020 in Hong Kong.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
1 panel fixed with a full-length mirror; another panel installed with an overhanging clothes-rack and a shelf on the bottom, which are all foldable; 1 panel assembled with an accessories-tray and able to be a towel stand. The half-length panel designed as the handle for better manoeuvring.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
According to a report from the United Nations, 54% of the world’s overall population is urban population in 2014 and it would increase to 66% in 2050. In other words, as urban population increases across the world, residences in cities will keep shrinking in order to fulfill the demand. Therefore, furniture is highly responsible to improve the efficiency in space-usage in small properties.

CHALLENGE:
Aiming at users at small department, the feasibility of manoeuvre is one of the key factors for user experience. Therefore, the number of panels and the dimensions of each panel are critical foundation for the product. On the other hand, the arrangement of the panels and hence the functions on each panel are also crucial. Each function is attached on the panels with different heights based on human behaviour. For example, the clothes-rack panel is fixed in the middle, so that the screen-mirror panel can be rotated and faced toward the user whilst changing clothes. Meanwhile, the centre of mass is calculated in different conditions, in order to enhance the safety and the stability of the product.
