RESEARCH ABSTRACT: According to a report from the United Nations, 54% of the world’s overall population is urban population in 2014 and it would increase to 66% in 2050. In other words, as urban population increases across the world, residences in cities will keep shrinking in order to fulfill the demand. Therefore, furniture is highly responsible to improve the efficiency in space-usage in small properties.
CHALLENGE: Aiming at users at small department, the feasibility of manoeuvre is one of the key factors for user experience. Therefore, the number of panels and the dimensions of each panel are critical foundation for the product. On the other hand, the arrangement of the panels and hence the functions on each panel are also crucial. Each function is attached on the panels with different heights based on human behaviour. For example, the clothes-rack panel is fixed in the middle, so that the screen-mirror panel can be rotated and faced toward the user whilst changing clothes. Meanwhile, the centre of mass is calculated in different conditions, in order to enhance the safety and the stability of the product.
