DESIGN NAME: Siete7
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bar and Restaurant
INSPIRATION: Hong Kong based architecture and interior design practice O&O Studio has completed the design of Siete7, a newly opened seafood restaurant and bar in Yuecheng District of Shaoxing. Located on the ground level of a raised terraced style pairing units, the scheme seeks for a resolution of a co-existing F&B spaces that inaugurate a spatial dialogue between them, and created a first of its kind of F&B outlet in the Eastern China province.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: O&O Studio draws inspiration on concurrence and synchronicity, placing the Siete7 Bar at the centre as a principal role, with the formal dining space and casual drinking space placed on either side, where the configuration leads to a transitional space. The operation flow and different functions co-exist with each other while creating dialogues among them.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Siete7 originally occupies two separate units. The owner acquired these joining units with the aim of elongating the frontage, allowing a semi-open style with an evolving and changing atmosphere according to the operational hours. Rather than creating deep spaces, O&O Studio takes a bold move by placing a simple yet functional kitchen as a long BOH room at the rear, in which it largely determines the overall spatial configuration, thus freeing up the entire frontage to begin with.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2021 in Shaoxing, PRC, and completed in Mar 2021.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: On the formal dining side, a space accommodating about 24 customers, is highlighted by a circular stainless steel plus mirror feature that echoes the Seite7 logo which is also designed by O&O Studio.
Towards the opposite side of the central bar, the drinking area carries on with high tables and seating, ending with a VIP intimate space which is built up with a wavy wall lining and mirror finish ceiling and houses a jellyfish tank, creating an immersive experience for customers.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The 160sqm space centred with a flowing stainless steel ceiling that subtly shimmers above the bar, with a pink earthy stone texture and a copper stainless steel bar top, plays a scent of feminine essence and marking the space a clear yet gentle spatial statement as the transitional element. The inverted shimmering cloud extends spatially onto both sides, with the burgundy red and beige bands of hand-made tiles that sit on a floor of a diagonally placed flanders weave patten of stone tiles.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In Shaoxing there is nowhere like Siete7 which has a totally operable frontage with an evolving atmosphere throughout the day. The frontage is composed of three bold cantilevering canopies that hinted the flow of transitional interior spaces while unifying the facade. The vertically fins with alternating operable clear and rainbow glass provide the break down on the horizontal linearity. In contrast to an expressive and slightly provocative interior, Siete7 is a hidden gem in the district.
CHALLENGE: With the low ceiling height and the need of opening up the entire frontage, the kitchen location is a key factor that O&O considered from the very beginning. At the end, the elongated spatial configuration facilitates a flow of functional spaces that meet the need of Client, while maintaining its own identity for each space type. As well as the bar, dining, drinking and VIP space, a mystical corridor for hand washing is also created such to allow the customers to enjoy every moment at Siete7.
