| DESIGN NAME: Neo Tulum PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lounge Chair INSPIRATION: Creating furniture designs for a luxury hotel at Isla Mujeres, Mexico, we try to synthesize a natural and casual flavor with a refined fresh Mediterranean style with a touch of mid-century style in a unique and inspiring rest chair to combine with the decoration, from which to admire the beautiful colors of the Mexican Caribbean Sea. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This fresh interpretation of the designs of the mid-century, provides a very ergonomic sitting in a resting position, ideal for conversation, admiring the sea view landscape of the hotel for which it is proposed or reading comfortably. Balanced shapes and vertices, the silhouette and soft contours give a touch of warmth and simplicity but with refined elegance to give a new refined and adapted version of this style of armchairs. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The elastic high-density polypropylene bands, lined with sand-colored natural leather, sewn with copper-colored satin thread, gives it a relaxed and comfortable sitting sensation. The wooden structure considers ergonomic and functional factors by shortening the legs to reduce the surface occupied by the furniture without sacrificing the generous sitting space to accommodate people of any complexion. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project began in December 2021 and was completed, after several prototypes and tests in February 2022, carried out in the G.Rios Design MR design laboratory in Merida Yucatan, and manufactured by DEC Hospitality MR, located in the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: As this luxurious piece of design is intended for use in hotels, its structure contemplates an exceptional strength and a space designed to not represent a danger of tripping over it while generously accommodating people of medium complexion. Likewise, the materials and colors replicate the marine rope ends in union with the color of the Caribbean sand and a few touches of copper in the thread to inspire luxury and distinction. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 660mm x 79mm x 93mm. High-density polypropylene, natural leather, coppery silk thread, American red oak wood, open-pore finish with matte high-solids polyurethane. TAGS: Lounge Chair, Mid Century, Solid Wood, UNIK Isla Mujeres, Luxury Seating, Armchair, Leather Bands, Hotel Furniture RESEARCH ABSTRACT: After the commission, the conceptual elements of the so-called TULUM Mexican style current were investigated, based on forms of nature, and forms of contemporary Mediterranean style, when interpreting it, common features of the mid-century style were taken into account, and all this was drawn first in pencil on cardboard in real size, to be transferred to 3D models, and from there 3 different prototypes were made, one of which passed the resistance tests. Then ergonomic adaptations were made. CHALLENGE: The great challenge was to obtain a fresh design with a mid-century style and inspired by the TULUM and Mediterranean styles. High resistance to hotel use and great comfort to adopt a resting posture, all with a high-luxury simplicity, required by the hotel brand.
