| DESIGN NAME: Eternal Dragon PRIMARY FUNCTION: Carpet as Art INSPIRATION: Since childhood, I have loved fairy tales about various mythological creatures, and my favorite was the Dragon. In the folklore of the whole world, these majestic creatures were found, sometimes they were negative heroes, and some, on the contrary, were wise and fair. Subsequently, the motive for creating the design of the carpet was not only love for lizards, but also the identification of parallels between them and people, since dragons are the personification of human qualities. This is what prompted me to create the Eternal Dragon project. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The dragon is rendered in graphics to draw parallels with illustrations from books about dragons. The main difference of the Eternal Dragon carpet project is that it is not only functional, but also aesthetic. Being a kind of art object. The product is made by hand, and it will always be unique and single. A peculiar technology, a mixture of two materials, an interesting texture, a non-standard size made this project unique. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When using a carpet made of materials such as viscose and wool, regular cleaning is necessary, which should be carried out either with a broom of medium elasticity or with a vacuum cleaner equipped with soft brushes and additional nozzles. To make woolen carpets or products made of other materials look perfect, you need to perform only 3 procedures its weekly vacuuming, perform dry cleaning, prompt removal of appearing stains. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Eternal Dragon carpet is handmade using technology hand notted. The peculiarity of this technology is that the carpets are woven on an ordinary wooden frame, knitting patterns without patterns, from memory. The service life of a quality product is calculated in decades and even centuries. Two types of material were used: the silhouette of the dragon and the frame were made of viscose, and the light background of the carpet was made of wool. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Carpet size 2500mm by 3500mm. The height of the carpet is 10mm. There is a border around the design of the dragon with a size of 100mm. The border gives the effect as if it were a painting. TAGS: handmade carpet, art object, design carpet, home carpet, dragon design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research type: Carpet weaving. Purpose of the study: Creating a carpet by identifying cultural similarities with the folklore of different peoples of the world. When developing the "Eternal Dragon" project, Asel Baimakhan relied on the works of ancient fallorists, work was done to study the origins of the very concept of "dragon". The methods and techniques of carpet weaving in China and Central Asia are considered. By sketching and searching for ideas from the literature available to her, this project was created. CHALLENGE: During the development and subsequent implementation of the project, I was faced with the problem of finding specialist artisans who would take on a carpet with an individual design, since many do not take on single orders and projects that are difficult to implement. There were craftsmen from India and it was a great experience working on distance online. The second problem was in combining two completely different materials in their properties into a single project, viscose and wool.
