PRIMARY FUNCTION: Learning Chair
INSPIRATION: With the development of education in China, there are new design requirements in the field of school furniture. Based on the dilemmas that exist in reality and the expectations of students, we look forward to creating a chair that bring Happier, Healthier and more Harmonious learning experience to students. This chair is inspired by three key words (Happy, Health, Harmony), and H presents a positive vision.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: H is a learning chair that has been designed from three perspectives. In the HAPPY perspective, its seat surface and back extracted the curve of the book. The curved bar on the back makes it easy to be moved and can also be used to hang bags, umbrellas, etc. In the HEALTH perspective, the H-shaped curved seat face and back provide a comfortable learning experience for students. In the HARMONY perspective, it can be combined with the matching desk, which can provide convenience for students to study together and share knowledge.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: 1. When the student comes in the classroom, the H chair empowers student visual enjoyment. 2. The arc rod on the back of the chair provides three functions of reinforcement, moving handle and hanging school bag, which makes the users feel warm. 3. The H-shaped arc of the seat surface and back aims to provide students with a healthy learning experience. 4.Combined with the H desk, students can not only enjoy personal learning, but also experience a harmonious atmosphere of mutual communication.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started on Mar. 2021 in Shanghai and finished on Feb. 2022 in Shanghai.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Methodology: Research on the current development of classroom furniture, combined with the emotional dilemmas and future visions of students to design H Chair by positive design approach, which focus on the needs of users of functional, emotional and visual aspects. Technology: Using 3D printing technology to iterate product prototypes and test the feasibility and durability of products. The materials used in this chair include steel tubes, wood panels and metal parts.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The overall size of the chair is 520mm x 500mm x 900mm. Seat surface is 520mm x 330mm x 20mm. Seat back is 460mm x 220mm x 20mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: With the educational development in China, the demands for classroom furniture are increased. Using positive design approach, we conducted a field study of classroom furniture and interviewed students in universities. Based on the findings, we summarized the functional, emotional and visual needs of students, and a learning chair (H) is generated, which will be used in a classroom with around 30 students. The chair enhances the students' well-being in the three perspectives of happy, health and harmony.
CHALLENGE: We comprehensively consider the balance between product style, function and feasibility. 1. The product form, color and material of the chair should match the functional needs of the classroom and meet the personal preferences of students. 2. The product needs to coordinate aesthetics, comfort and safety. 3. It needs to be a standard controlled product, and it needs to face the challenges of cost, transportation and assembly in the mass production process.
