| DESIGN NAME: Core PRIMARY FUNCTION: Modular Massage Chair INSPIRATION: The massage chairs on the current market have the following problems: 1. The massage part is too large and occupies the overall space of the seat, which weakens the user's comfort; 2. The use scenario is single and cannot meet the needs of users in multiple scenarios. 3. Pay less attention to whether the experience provided by the product enhances the user's happiness. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a modular massage chair to enhance the pleasant experience, which meets the users' pursuit of happiness at home. The chair has three features: 1. Save space by more reasonable matching between the "core" (massage module) and the chair. 2. The modular design enables the "core" to be installed on the chair and also can be used separately. 3. The massage strength and temperature can be adapted according to user needs. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: 1. When the user is seated, the module can identify the user's lumbar muscle strain and then perform precise massage to improve the user's pleasant experience. 2. When the user is lying on the sofa, the module can be easily removed to be used freely. 3. When the user is massaging leisurely, the APP matched with the module will remind the user of the injury part and the recovery situation of the body, so as to help the user achieve the personal healthy life. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started on September 2021 in Shanghai and finished on January 2022 in Shanghai, and was exhibited in Donghua University on January 2022. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: 1. The angle between the seat back and the surface is 95 degrees, which ensures the most basic comfort characteristics of a chair. 2. The streamlined design of the steel tube enhances the support strength of the chair legs. 3. The smart module fits the seat back in a simple way. It can be quickly assembled, and disassembled. 4. Materials of this chair include textiles, ABS elastic plastic, steel pipes and metal parts. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The overall size of the chair is 550mm x 500mm x 870mm. Seat surface is 550mm x 445mm x 20mm. Seat back is 490mm x 380mm x 20mm. TAGS: Massage chair, modular, multi-scenario, pleasure experience RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Background: Core Chair aims to meet the needs of those who seek a healthy quality of life. Methods: through the research on home massage chairs and the user experience, three limitations of the existing products were sorted out. The result: a modular smart chair has been designed. Impact: Through the interaction and application of the Core Chair, we provide a household appliance that is compact in size, can be used in multiple scenarios, and enhances users' sustainable pleasure. CHALLENGE: 1. Chairs should balance individual and collective pleasures and needs, such as aesthetics, product appearance, and good multi-sensory interaction. 2. Massage chair should easy to be understood and operated, and simplify the steps of human-computer interaction to expand the age range of user groups. 3. It remains to be further verified whether the product can still have a lasting sense of well-being after a long-term experience.
