DESIGN NAME: Dictionaly of Grasses
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Book
INSPIRATION: When I started to design the cover, luckily my son loved to watch the Ghibli movie, Totoro. As you know the small girl went through the tunnel of trees I got inspiration. So that the title is surrounded by grasses like the tunnel.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This dictionary introduces grasses(weeds). The outside cover uses tracing paper with grass illustrations. The inside cover also has grass illustrations. So when you see from the front, since the outside cover illustrations are translucent, you may feel depth effect.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The cover design is translucent, it can catch people's attention. Also the design helps marketing sales.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Sep 2016 and finished in Jan 2017.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The outside cover uses tracing paper. This was originally the editor's strong wish. We thought of a way to use tracing paper effectively and adopted a three-dimensional expression. The book has alternating four-color and two-color pages. The book mainly photographs, but the line drawings on the two-color pages provide a little break for the eye.
