DESIGN NAME: 87MM Brand Story
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Book Design
INSPIRATION: While interviewing the two founders of 87MM, who were fashion models, He learned the story of how they made clothes. He wanted to convey the story of their 10 years of making clothes in a book. He came to think about how to express their favorite colors, graphics, and various elements in the book. Inspired by the numbers 8 and 7, He designed fonts, and He designed books using these fonts.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: He designed the brand book of 87MM, a Korean fashion brand. 87MM is a representative fashion brand in Korea that creates a culture in everyday life through sense and wit. You can see the story of 87MM over the past decade through the brand book which contains the record of the 10th anniversary since its launch in 2011.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Through the brand book, he designed to tell the public who likes 87MM, Korea's leading fashion brand, the story of the 10 years since its establishment in 2011. This book will serve to communicate more closely with the young Korean public who likes 87MM and is enthusiastic about it through the story of the brand and the story of the two founders as well as the brand philosophy of 87MM.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in Seoul, Korea, in March 2021 and ended in January 2022. Books have been on sale in Korea since January 2022.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The cover design was designed to express the accumulation of stories for 10 years by printing thick boards and 87MM main colors on paper and was made using debossing and matte inkstones on the front and back of the cover. It is divided into three parts in total, and we used four types of paper to express the image well according to the characteristics of each part. Part 1-1 is made to have a different texture than other parts by coating with a silkscreen.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Hardcover book, 190 mm × 280 mm × 33 mm, 400 page. The cover is debossing and hot foil stamping (gloss black), the Spine is hot foil stamping (gloss black), Coating silkscreen on the paper.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: According to the nature of the fashion brand, he wanted to classify the story of the past decade into three parts. Since the characteristics of each part are clearly distinguished, it was judged that using paper in four types could convey the story of 87MM more accurately. Through the form, proportion, and texture of the book, I wanted to convey that it is a book made by a brand's philosophy and fashion brand.
CHALLENGE: In organizing and classifying vast amounts of data over the past decade, data had to be classified and selected so that it could be an interesting record that suits the character of a fashion brand and expresses the brand well, not just a record of 10 years. And the newly designed font had to harmonize with the story expressed in writing. The selection of paper to express these materials well was also an important task.
