DESIGN NAME: Erosono
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lighting
INSPIRATION: We picked up the spirit of the great post WWII designers who guided us by exploring new materials and production methods.
We used a recent material that is composed of recycled wood that adds a nice esthetic warm feeling in combination with another a-typical material for lighting: plywood.
The object is available in several colors.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: 'Erosono' is a directional spotlight that must be mounted on the ceiling or wall. The lamp holder is made from wood waste that has been reprocessed into a new high-quality product. The support is made of plywood.
The lamps are handmade with high-end craftmanship that results into its unique look. The unique grain of the finished product is achieved through various refined surface treatments.
The product is available in different colours. The pictures show the concrete grey
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Erosono is to be used above a (dining) table, but also to highlight a work of art. So it is a technical lighting in a fancy jacket.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The lamp was developed in our studio in Ronse in November 2021. The basic idea came suddenly and the development of the prototype with the correct measures and finish followed within a week.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The lamp is composed of recycled wood that has been reworked into plates that are colored in the mass. Rings are cut from these plates with a CNC cutting machine, which are then glued together under high pressure.
The support is made of birch plywood. The light source is a GU10 LED lamp.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 18 cm x Depth 12,5 cm x Height 48 cm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In order to have a directional luminaire, it must be rotatable in different ways. At least 2 axes are required. This is not always obvious with wood.
Furthermore, the reaction of the composition to the heat of the light source had to be carefully checked. Not only the materials that are used but also the way of putting them together .
CHALLENGE: Dasein is always looking for new angles when designing functional objects. Always keeping the value of our environment in mind.
Since the invention of LED lighting, the use of wood material in lighting fixtures is no longer unique. However, using recycled wood is. The challenge for the designers was to design a fully-fledged lighting fixture with new and nature-friendly materials.
