| DESIGN NAME: Anti Vomiting Pillow PRIMARY FUNCTION: Child Products INSPIRATION: Babies, whose digestive system is not fully developed, tend to suffer from gastroesophageal reflux and vomit if lying down right after feeding. By elevating the cardia through the slope, the product prevents babies from vomiting, averting the risk of choking resulted from it. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The product, with a unique elevating mechanism, tackles vomiting after feeding. The situation where babies, when lying on their backs, experience gastroesophageal reflux or vomit can be averted by adjusting the number of interior pads. Besides, the product, acting as a bed in bed, can prevent mothers from turning atop babies when sharing a bed with them. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Lying on the pillow, babies can eat or rest comfortably. The scientific anti vomiting angle, when babies lie on the pillow after feeding, can make them belch, thus preventing vomiting. According to how much babies vomit, the angle of slope can be adjusted by reducing or increasing the number of interior pads, so that babies can lie on their backs comfortably. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The product, co-developed by designers for mothers and newborns in Shanghai and international design teams in April, 2019, was launched on iyun based in Tmall. In October, 2021, its upgraded version was launched on imomoto based in Tmall. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The interior filler material is made of customized polyurethane interior pads with great elasticity, which have undergone SGS tests, and imported coconut fiber mats by hot pressing; the exterior pillowcase is made of COOLMAX fabric that is moisture-wicking and quick-drying. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 450 mm x 800 mm x 200 mm TAGS: - RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Unlike adults, newborns stomach is horizontal and relatively small in volume. As their not-fully-developed cardia can’t close properly, products of digestion, in the case of gastrointestinal peristalsis, tend to reflux from esophagus, leading to vomiting. Frequent vomiting is likely to cause such conditions as inflammations in intestines and stomach, and pneumonia. CHALLENGE: How to tackle the problem of various extent to which babies vomit on different stages, and how to make the angle of slope adjustable have become the major challenges of the Research and Development. Designers, by increasing or reducing the number of interior pads, enable users to adjust the angle of slope, delivering the anti-vomiting function of adjusting the angle according to babies needs.
