| DESIGN NAME: Eureka PRIMARY FUNCTION: Tea Table INSPIRATION: Inspired by Enneper surface, a mathematical model in the soap bubble structure, it lends the surface a minimum area yet reliable stability. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Eureka coffee table is an elegant and avant-garde furniture. Based on the Enneper surface, its structure design applies CNC machine cutting technology for the complex surface. The gray glass, looking transparent and voluminous, renders this table visually fluent and stable and the space serene and pleasant. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Eureka coffee table interacts with users naturally in the given room, forming a flowing atmosphere and attracting users to sit and use it. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Started in March 2021 in Beijing, China, this product was finished in November 2021 and was exhibited in December 2021 in Caochangdi Arts, Beijing. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The base made of American black walnut is cut by a CNC machine that carves the wood and assembles them into a standard Enneper surface. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 900mmx900mmx410mm TAGS: - RESEARCH ABSTRACT: What is beauty? That is a philosophical problem. In traditional Chinese philosophy, sages thought nature is the essence of beauty. Nature stands for Tao, the rules of how everything develops. Nature is fond of simplicity and full of mathematical models. The soap bubble that we commonly see is an Enneper surface, a typical mathematical model. CHALLENGE: The challenge lies in how to rebuild the Enneper surface using processing techniques in real life. For that matter, the design team spent a year on drafting and attempting.
