| DESIGN NAME: Otowav PRIMARY FUNCTION: Jewelry INSPIRATION: Our wish to express feelings to someone which words just could not do justice to has created otowav. Deriving from the Japanese word for soundwave, oto, otowav represents the place where feelings, a voice and words meet in three dimensions. Every time we speak, our voices produce waves called soundforms. They are the way nature is making our voice visible. Otowav translates your feelings into three dimensions, creating a unique design based on the sound of your voice. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Welcome to the most innovative personalised gift platform. The jewelry speaks for itself. Create your own soundwave jewelry from the Otowav collection. Embed a personalised audio message inside your jewelry gift for instant audio playback on your mobile device. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: 1. Record or Upload your audio message via the online interface 2. Play back your audio message & proceed or record again 3. Create your personalised 3D Otowav soundwave through our online algorithm 4. Interact with your 3D Otowav soundwave in our 3D view port 5. Select your gift option & quantity to receive your price quote 6. Receive your Otowav in a beautiful customized packaging where a unique personalized audio message can be played back through NFC technology PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in February 2018 in Athens Greece and finished in March 2021. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Each item of our designs is linked to a unique personalized message. It is then sculpted through our algorithm making each design unique. We felt that three dimensional printing was the production solution that could full fill our expectetions to deliver the most promising experience for the user. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Pendant: 50mmX10mmX4mm Necklace: 30mmX15mmX4mm Earrings: 35mmX8mmX4mm Bracelet: 25mmX10mmX4mm Cufflinks: 18mmX10mmX12mm Keychain: 60mmX28mmX5mm Packaging: 100mmX60mmX15mm TAGS: Sound, jewelry, gift, personal, soundwave RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Our capacity of sharing memories differentiate us humans amongst other species. Within only one year we took 1,5 trillion photographs. We decided though that we wanted to share memories through the original story teller, the human voice. We started by developing an algorithm that converted soundwaves into 3d printed jewlery. The platform gives the freedom to the user to add their personal touch while at the same time a personal audio message can be embeded inside. The collection has been designed to serve as an ellegant template ready to be sculpted by the sound of your voice. CHALLENGE: The transition process from a sounwave form to a three dimensional object was very demanding both design and production wise. In terms of visualization the information given by the soundwave through the algorithm that was created, had to be broken down to a minimal form that could communicate the message visualy through an elegant contemporary design. The customisation of each design resulted in a production process that included 3d printing and the NFC technology used for transferring the personal audio message that is embeded in each design.
