| DESIGN NAME: Maestoso PRIMARY FUNCTION: Hotel INSPIRATION: The main inspiration for the design can be found in the traditional white fence that surrounds the pastures of the white Lipizzaner horses. The fences are a recognizable regional motif that is carried onto the building envelope, creating a bond between the large hotel volume and the local landscape. The intent of the project was to propose a sustainable approach to hotel renovation, where instead of demolishing an old building, we propose a repurposing and expansion of the existing structure. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Maestoso hotel is a renovation of an existing 1970s building. The project proposes a new and sustainable way of renovating old hotel buildings, which are in need of a new character and new facilities. The main feature of the design is the façade structure, which on one hand, serves as supporting structure for the added balconies, while on the other hand, it blends the buildings appearance with the surrounding landscape. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: - PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2018 and was constructed in July 2021 in Lipica, Slovenia. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The realization of the project required a completely three dimensional approach to the structure as well as the interior organization of the space. The façade was parametrically modeled and produced with CNC milling out of wooden beams. On the inside, the walls were brushed and cleaned to reveal the rough concrete structure. Furnishing made of wood and metal was inserted to add additional warmth to the interior space. NAME: ENOTA PROFILE: Enota was founded in 1998 with the ambition to create contemporary and critical architectural practice of an open type based on collective approach to development of architectural and urban solutions. Enota is led by founding partners and principal architects Dean Lah and Milan Tomac. Constant changes and new complex situations in the world around us drive us to think about new architectural and urban solutions. In order to be able to produce answers to those new questions we believe it’s time to surpass the boundaries of conventional discipline set mainly by our cultural backgrounds. Enota’s team of architects focuses on research driven design of the environment where study of contemporary social organizations and use of new technologies are interwoven to produce innovative and effective solutions. Enota’s solutions are strongly influenced by research, reinterpretation and development of social, organizational and design algorithms that derive from nature.
