DESIGN NAME: EcoFlow Delta Pro Ecosystem
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Portable Home Battery
INSPIRATION: According to USEIA, US citizens experience an average of 6 hours of power interruptions each year. For one like the 2021 Texas power crisis, 4.5M people lost power for days. That drives the need for homeowner disaster preparedness plans. Yet, one battery is not enough, especially when the grid goes offline for days. EcoFlow envisioned a self-sustaining solution that a core battery could provide one day’s power on its own and could also be expanded with extra batteries and bolstered with solar panels, smart generators, and wind turbines to extend the battery’s life to provide multi-day power.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: EcoFlow’s DELTA Pro is the industry's first eco-friendly portable power station that can be expanded with an ecosystem of accessories like extra batteries, smart generators, solar panels, and more that, when combined, can provide one week of emergency electricity. Unlike a polluting, noisy gas generator, this solar rechargeable model is quiet, free-standing, portable, and can simultaneously power up to 15 devices and heavy-duty appliances, including space heaters and air conditioners.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Designed to draw energy from the most sources as possible that the market can offer today, the DELTA Pro gathers power from renewable energy to gas to allow users to charge the battery in the way most convenient to them. And based on customer feedback, EcoFlow created the industry revelational EV Station charging adaptor that can hook up to a Level 2 EV charger. Also, you would expect a battery the size of a microwave and as beefy as 3.6kWh to take nearly a day to charge. But by using multiple charging sources that can get you to 6500W, with EcoFlow’s proprietary X-Stream charging technology, you can top up 1 DELTA Pro and a Smart Extra Battery in less than 2 hours.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The DELTA Pro and all expandable accessories were designed and developed in Shenzhen from 2020.10.01 to 2021.10.01. The project raised over 12 million dollars when released on Kickstarter on July 15. Currently, DELTA Pro is under mass manufacturing.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The DELTA Pro has a unibody design to support its own weight and to reduce impact from collision. The body uses the highest-rated PC-Abs V0 to prevent fire hazards. EcoFlow uses PCB to replace spade connectors to reduce both maintenance difficulty and the temperature, together increasing stability. Its intelligent BMS and APP can manage 3 sets of 3.6kWh batteries, allowing users to expand capacity with two extra batteries. Its LFP cells give more than 3500 fast charging cycles to 80 percent of capacity, which is 3 times longer than NCM batteries.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In 2020, extreme weather plunged the US into darkness as utility customers experienced 1.33 billion hours of outages – a 73% increase YOY (PowerOutage.US). Analysts project the market size for portable power stations to reach USD 494 million by 2026, a 72% increase from today (Market Research Future). Therefore, the DELTA Pro is primarily geared for Gen X and Millennial suburban survivalists: tech-savvy families and off-gridders taking action on home resilience. Recent homeowner surveys show that 45% said a backup battery would make them feel better prepared, and 61% of those aged 24-39 are now considering backup options (SolarBuilder).
CHALLENGE: The DELTA Pro needs to fulfill the increasing demand for more capacity yet retain its portability and affordability. That requires smart engineering to integrate all components to minimize the use of space, reduce weights and costs. To adapt to 5 power sources, DELTA Pro needed to convert direct and alternating current under low voltage and high voltage. Moreover, as the core of the self-sustaining ecosystem, the DELTA Pro needed to support charging, discharging, and heat distribution for two extra batteries.
