| DESIGN NAME: Bamboo Bow PRIMARY FUNCTION: Dining Table INSPIRATION: For thousands of years, bamboo has been loved by the world for its elegant and candid quality, and has become a cultural symbol of personality. From the ancient Chinese literati’s tradition: "a gentleman cannot live without bamboo" to the modern furniture that mainly use artificial board, people's spiritual pursuits nowadays are far inferior to those of the ancients. In addition to the increasing scarcity of wood resources, it is hoped that the application of bamboo material products will not only meet the aesthetic needs of contemporary consumers, but also have traditional cultural characteristics. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Application of bamboo’s physical toughness. Detachable structural components meet the needs of industrial production. Multi-material collocation improves product aesthetics. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Taking advantage of the toughness of bamboo, through the form of superimposition of layers and the fixing of the screw, all the forces have sufficient strength to achieve a stable effect. Sitting at the table, you can see the beauty of structural mechanics through the glass top. It looks like a big ship sailing, and the shadow looks like a thousand waves caused by a rock, which improves the overall aesthetics and brings enjoyment of dining. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Adult bamboo is used, and it is flattened through an unfolding technique. The structure utilizes the natural toughness of the bamboo fiber, and each layer of the bamboo sheet is stacked with detachable metal screws to fasten one another. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 1600mm x Depth 1600mm x Height 760mm TAGS: bamboo, structure, bow, table, Mechanics RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Our team hopes that bamboo can become a necessity to represent the Chinese people’s lifestyle. And we hope to promote the upgrade of bamboo furniture industry, so as to study the impact of bamboo furniture on people’s lives. We conducted random interview surveys on hundreds of 35–45-year-olds. More than 62% of the interviewees hope the quality of current bamboo furniture can be enhanced, so that to meet more consumers’ aesthetic and use requirements. CHALLENGE: The most challenging part is the bamboo bending technology and the process of stabilizing the joints, and how to effectively overcome these difficulties.
