DESIGN NAME: Future of Banking
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Explanatory Motion Graphics
INSPIRATION: All great user interfaces from different apps and how they are using digitalization to help people live an easier life is one of my biggest inspirations. I learned to use camera movement to tell a story and how to build a clear story through efficient storytelling from all beautiful animations and motion graphic videos. When I did designs, I always got inspired by minimalist modern art.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Julius Baer approached Ms. Wu to create a motion graphic video to explain and promote their digital product for their potential investors. She produced a nearly two mins length video to emphasize the benefits of Digitization of Banking. This video used many visual metaphors, vividly told a story about how the product help people working more efficiently, more comfortably when they deal with banking problems. It also showed how the product helped to enter a new digital era with full enjoyment.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: All my commercial projects start with communication with clients. The client and I settled down the script before creating the storyboards. Storyboards need to decide the storytelling structure, narrative clarities, and camera movement. Then I started design styleframes for every shot. In this phase, I needed to make sure each styleframes were visually attractive without misunderstanding. After the design phase, the animation was executed. Everything came to life and came together as a whole piece at the moment.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2019 in New York and finished in March 2020 in New York.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Storyboarding, Conceptual Visualization, Storytelling, Graphic Design, Illustration, Motion Graphics, Cel animation, AE Animation
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 1920 x 1080 HD Video
The whole video is created by a computer. Many new technologies(Adobe suite, the way I collect references, etc) helped me achieve ideas that would have taken a lot of time in a traditional way.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This is a video about "digitalization", I needed to collect a lot of information from other animations and infographics on how data works and how they being transferred. In the meanwhile, the comparison between the look of some tools in our real life and the look of them in the digital world(UI) also inspired me. In addition, the look and the behaviors of office workers(especially ladies) helped me create the characters in this video.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part of this project for me is time management. It's not easy to work storyboard, design, animation all by myself with tons of communications between clients and I. By solving this problem I used the "GTD(get things done)" method and it helps me to finish the whole piece in an efficient way.
How to create a clear storytelling structure with interesting visual metaphors is another big challenge. After a lot of research work with a huge amount of references, the end result was a very satisfying one for both the client and myself.
