| DESIGN NAME: 95% Goose Down Neck Support Pillow PRIMARY FUNCTION: Neck Support Pillow INSPIRATION: Although common down pillow is soft, it fails to support the neck. Thus we hope to give the down pillow enough support and regain the healthy curve of neck and spine through a relatively rigid neck supporting point, which helps to add traction and follow the natural curve of the neck. Long-term using will change sleepers’ bad position and avoid cervical kyphosis. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a functional sleep pillow co-developed with Japanese sleeping experts. Its core has two parts - the internal one uses 95% large goose down while the external one is filled with goose feather. The high purity down is soft and the feather can rebound and offer support. With a precise volume of the fillings, the pillow can hold the neck firmly and effectively. Based on ergonomic, three different kinds, namely general, low soft and high hard, are available to meet different sleep needs. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: At the four corners of the pillowcase sits a tie, which can hold the core firmly and avoid its moving as well as facilitate hanging and drying. For sleepers who are taller, a high hard pillow filled with flexible air tubes that has better support is developed, which is more suitable for hefty men. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: 2021.04 |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The pillow consists of three parts, the cephalic pouch, the side sleeping and the neck nape. The hollowed-out design of the cephalic pouch zone narrows the gaps between the pillow and head and neck, supporting and fitting them better and thus rendering sleep much more comfortable. The side sleeping zones on either side are thicker and filled more to support natural and smooth turning over. The neck nape zone is wider and longer to follow the curve of the neck and spine and hold them more comfortably. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The pillow is 74 cm long and 48 cm wide. The general one is filled with 95% down goose and latex particles; the low soft one 95% down goose and down feather; and the high hard one 95% down goose and flexible air tubes. TAGS: neck support, pillow, white goose down, sleep, support RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research shows that normal spine has a 5° natural tilt, at which the body suffers from less burden and keeping such a position is more ideal in sleeping. Therefore designers innovates the structure of the pillow core to keep users’ spine at a 5° natural tilt during sleep to reduce body’s burden and cradle the neck by adding traction through the supporting point. This pillow represents SIDANDA’s care for users’ sleeping quality both from its materials and core structure. CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge is to provide enough support for goose down pillow and increase its traction to the cervical spine. The height of cervical vertebra varies among people of different body forms and the common goose down pillow are too soft to provide enough support. Thus we make three types of pillows made of different materials to satisfy people’s diverse needs, leading the industry with the combination of the internal and external cores. The external one is filled with gentle and soft 95% goose down while the internal one has a supporting filling - the general pillow uses latex particles, the low soft goose adopts feather and the high hard tales air tube. Although these hard materials may cause discomfort at the initial using stage, long-term using can improve cervical kyphosis.
