DESIGN NAME: Aero 45
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pocket Yacht
INSPIRATION: The challenge of turning the classic lines and slender, low profile shape of a rigid inflatable boat into a luxury vessel that fulfils the needs of an experienced sea-voyager has led us to develop a new approach on sea keeping, sustainability in materials, efficiency, and comfort at sea. The arrow-like shape which provides an almost invisible cabin area, two toy garages and a magnificent deck layout is a combination of the round, delicate and smooth tube shape with the aggressive corners of the alloy development.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Aero is the only luxury, recreational RIB of this size made out of aluminum which not only gives superior strength and lightness to the structure but is also environmentally friendly. The other unique feature is the ultra efficient patented hull technology that converts wakes into forward movement. She had 2 toy garages which guarantee the utmost fun as they reveal a stand up jet ski as for sporty exploration in water and a minibike for ashore. A semi-transparent solar panel T-Top that covers a substantial amount of energy requirements when idle. Last the D sectioned tubes offer 50% more internal beam and thus comfort.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Aero 45 can be managed by single captain without any crew, given easy access from helm to bow and stern due to strategically positioned seat at the starboard side. Equipped with joystick and bow thruster permits precision handling. This facility provides full privacy. Interior cabin areas and respective amenities offer enough space for a family to stay onboard for two weeks without calling any port.
The design also provides for a crewed cruise with minimum interference with guests given the walk-around wet bar and crew accommodation dedicated to the crew.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Aero is a project that has been worked as a concept for over 10 years prior reaching this stage. It started in Paris in 2008 as a concept and due to global financial crisis its realization was postponed until September 2019 when the team was put in place and design begun. The actual design implementation has taken just over 2 years of extreme co-ordination between the parties involved and expect full construction drawings to be finished by October 2021. We expect actual construction to take about 12 months.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Aero 45 combined our capabilities with those of two different naval engineers. The one, responsible to adjust the hull design with his patented technology that converts wake into forward movement thus increasing efficiency and seakeeping capabilities and the other who was responsible for the structural development assuring the integrity of the system. Semi transparent solar panels will cover partially the electricity needs of the vessel when idle. Finally, there is an option to have a fully electrically powered version in the near future.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Sterndrive version: 2x440hp

It is important to mention that the speed figures are unheard of fir such a large vessel with such reasonable powertrains due to the increased efficiency of the patented hull design.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research has been an ongoing process of hands on extensive use of Rigid Inflatable Boats of various sizes and shapes for at least 18 years to understand what is really important and required for users to have a real and full experience of boating in all weather conditions while remaining so close to the sea level.
Extensive research was done to decide the hull design which is one of the core aspects of a boat design including bibliography and empirical studies.
CHALLENGE: Aluminum construction is very different from the typical plastic one done through molds. Aluminum has developable surfaces that limit 3axis curvature and detailing making aesthetic design very challenging. A lot of reading and discussions with welders took place to understand what is possible and what not.
