PRIMARY FUNCTION: Design and Art Exhibition
INSPIRATION: frenchCALIFORNIA9;s Founder Guillaume Coutheillas worked with JDS Development Group to create a unique exhibition in the Steinway Tower at 111 West 57th Street in New York City. frenchCALIFORNIA partnered with gallery Gabriel & Guillaume and Valerie Cueto. For the penthouse space, frenchCALIFORNIA combined contemporary pieces with vintage treasures. The curation includes Brazilian modernist pieces by Joaquim Tenreiro and José Zanine Caldas, 20th century design icon Carlo Bugati.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: frenchCALIFORNIA created the first public exhibition in the never-before-seen Landmark Penthouse atop the iconic Steinway Hall on 111 West 57th Street. A registered historic and cultural landmark, the building first opened its doors in 1925 to a performance from the NY Philharmonic, and is also unveiling an adjacent tower by SHoP Architects and Bill Sofield. The curation includes a contemporary art collection with works by Jean Michel Othoniel, Hans Hartung, Robert Mapplethorpe and Diane Arbus.
