| DESIGN NAME: Loop PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sanitary Ware INSPIRATION: The main approach to sanitary ware design has frequently taken the approach to cover essential features of the plumbing system. The Loop unit however, does not in any way conceal any finishings but rather leaves all fittings visible. The elementary design principle has been to omit everything that is not a certain necessity for the functioning of the unit. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Loop Sanitary Ware has resulted from an environmental friendly approach to sanitary products. The use of simple and easily obtainable materials to achieve a simple yet elegant design has been the main aim in achieving an unobtrusive design. The metal piece has been designed for supporting circular counter-top lavatories. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This is a wall mounted unit consisting of two units. The piece drawing the most attention is the metal piece supporting the lavatory. The metal support rests on the floor while being attached to the wall. The second unit is the mirror consisting of two parts. There is an 18mm mdf piece mounted prior to the fixture of the mirror. The mdf is 20mm. narrower than the mirror so as to provide a niche to the neon led lighting strip. Both the mirror and the lighting continue in the ceiling. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Project was developed for our commercial customer in Ankara, Turkey. The project started in March 2021 the design was produced and fitted to its new location in April 2021. The pandemic conditions provided major limitations in the design and manufacture of the project. However, pandemic limitations also enabled a unique opportunity for the ease of assembly of the project at the time where all cafes and restaurants had been closed for 17 days. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The metal parts are produced by bending and welding 20mmx20mmx1.8mm square profile material and painted in two alternative colors: rose gold and matt black. The mirror is cut from 4mm. material and is grinded on all sides to achieve smooth edges. The wall and ceiling mirrors have an 18mm. mdf hanging detail behind them. The mirrors are fixed with silicone onto the mdf's that have been previously fixed to the wall. The mdf detail is also used to attach daylight colored led neon lighting. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The dimension of the metal part is 450mm(w)x420mm(d)x71 TAGS: Sanitary Ware, Minimal Design, Loop, Lavatory Fixture, Bathroom Design, Elegant Design, Product Design, Mirror With Lighting RESEARCH ABSTRACT: A qualitative type of research benefiting mostly from the observation of social areas of interest has been conducted. The Research Objectives have been to concentrate on aspects such as plumbing, lighting design, material selection and interior ambiance formation. So what has been designed as a result of this process has not merely been the design of a lavatory fixture with a mirror having lighting; but a unique unit supporting the design language, interior atmosphere and design concept in a wholesome attitude. CHALLENGE: The bold decision to reveal all parts of the plumbing system required a meticulous planning of all plumbing and fixing systems. In the end, all plumbing had been revised on site to prevent any mistakes. Regarding the mirror, electric cabling was required and the fixing of the lighting fixture to the MDF piece posed additional details to be solved. Eventually all planning proved helpful in avoiding any possible mistakes and additional details were solved and the project was finished in time.
