| DESIGN NAME: Bingo PRIMARY FUNCTION: Children Mask INSPIRATION: In the era of epidemic prevention and control, it is a challenge for children aged 3 to 6 years to have enough patience to wear disposable masks for a long time. Also, the safe time for wearing disposable masks is about 4 hours. Exceeding the safe time may bring hidden dangers to children's health. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: We designed a mask game for children called Feeding Animals. As time goes by, the food in the animal's mouth gradually appears and undergoes a visible color change. When the mouth is completely filled with food, the animal expression changes to a satisfied smile, and the mask shows the encouraging word "Bingo". At this time, the child mask has been used for four hours and needs to be replaced. This design can increase the fun of wearing masks, and improve children's acceptance of the mask. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The water vapor produced by children's breathing causes photonic crystal films designed in the mask to create color changes to form a variety of food pictures. The food in the animal's mouth becomes more and more over time from the visual effect. When the mouth is filled with food, the use time of the mask reaches four hours. At this time, the animal's expression changes to a happy state, and the word "Bingo" is displayed, which reminds parents to help the child replace a new mask in time. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in February 2021 and finished in March 2022 in China. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Photonic crystals combine with water vapor to produce color changes visible to the naked eyes without having any harmful substances. By adjusting the number and spacing of particle arrays that make up the crystal film, crystal films are controlled to collect different amounts of water vapor. Over time, the outermost layer of the children's mask will take on various food patterns and color changes. We design a child mask with visual changes to improve children's health protection. It not only turns the dull wearing of masks into a fun game of feeding animals but also can know the approximate time of wearing the mask through the process of food color change. It works by combining the photonic crystal film with the outer material of the children's mask to collect the water vapor generated by children's breathing. Over time, the photonic crystals designed in different regions undergo color changes visible to the naked eye, realizing the food presentation process in the animal's mouth from nothing. CHALLENGE: The discoloration of photonic crystal film needs to accurately reflect the use time of the child mask, and visualize the food and color changes in the animal's mouth.
