DESIGN NAME: Outsiders
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lighting Performance
INSPIRATION: The idea of the performance started growing after one of our previous lighting projects. We continued experimenting with led lights and zip-ties. In the first stage, it resembled a caterpillar shining in a dark. After some modifications, we came up with the idea of making a costume for aliens. It was the good starting point but we lacked an idea to make future project looks more alive and attractive. So, we decided to play around with the most actual problem on Earth, the problem of energy. Thus, were born our aliens who came on Earth to share their experience of using energy. We named them Outsiders.
In our story, Outsiders came to Earth not as invaders but as highly intelligent creatures with a lot of knowledge to share with humans. As just arrived, they are exploring our planet at different locations illuminating surroundings with their lights.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: "Outsiders: energy is inside" is a lighting performance that was staged in Oakville, Canada. The performance is a fiction on the theme of Energy, particularly, how and what kind of energy inhabitants of other planets use to survive. To visualize this idea, we have designed lighting costumes masking human bodies and helping transform them into illuminated aliens. The main point of the project: the energy is actually found inside of us. It is the foundation of our livelihood and may be a key to solving the energy problem on Earth.
