| DESIGN NAME: Build Your City PRIMARY FUNCTION: Blind Box Toys INSPIRATION: With the continuous promotion of sustainable development strategy, people begin to reflect on their consumption patterns, and designers start to reflect on the disadvantages of excessive packaging. Zilan's original design intention is to make the packaging of toys meaningful and useful, rather than just the things people have left after enjoying the joy of unpacking. Therefore her solution is to transfer the package box as a part of the toy. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a micro-city toy blind box design. The most exciting feature of this design is that the package is also a part of the toy. One side of the box is recessed in the shape of a cross, L, straight line, and T, so the containers become the micro-city land and route. Because the packaging boxes are playable, our "building" layout is no longer two-dimensional but three-dimensional, helping develop users' creativity, especially children. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The product is a blind toy box for Micro City. People don't know what toys are inside until they open the box. After the customer dismantles the toy, the toy and the packaging box can be freely assembled. The box serves as a base for the "building" and serves as a road. Customers assemble bigger "cities" by buying more blind boxes of toys. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in September 2020 in Savannah, Georgia, USA, and was completed in March 2021 Savannah. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The material of the toy is acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, and paper for packages. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The size of the package is 10cm*10cm*5cm, and the size of the toy is proximately 3cm*3cm*3cm. TAGS: Micro-city toys, blind box, building toys RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In this project, Zilan Zhou used a questionnaire survey, interview, and other primary research methods. Also, she searched materials on the Internet to obtain secondary research. CHALLENGE: The most challenging part of the project was how to make the packaging an integral part of the game.
