DESIGN NAME: Vegetable
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Dough Toolset
INSPIRATION: Currently, most of the dough toolsets on the market are based on geometric shapes. More consideration should be given to the ergonomics of the child, so that it is not easy to get tired from making dough for a long time. Therefore, this project uses the fruits and vegetables that children often eat in daily life as inspiration.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Through interesting toolset shapes, children can have more interactions to make different dough shapes with fun. In regard to ergonomics, the diameter and body curve of the eggplant rolling pin can better support kids to make a flat of dough. The carrot cutter with round shape is easier for kids to hold and cut dough. The mushroom extruder allows kids to observe the process of extruding the dough.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This toolset provides cutting, pressing, and squeezing actions to help children make their dough shapes. Children's ergonomic considerations and the shapes of different vegetables were combined to design this toolset. Moreover, turn the handle of the caterpillar and use Apple's brain to turn out many creative materials for making colorful dough works. The main function is to help children squeeze out noodles and cut them into ingredients. Through mechanical design and considering children's ergonomic, children can more easily extrude noodles by rotation.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Duration: January 2019 to January 2021. Location: Hong Kong and Ningbo.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The material of the toy is plastic, which is made by injection molding.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To develop a series of designs through the tool design using different vegetables and fruits. It is very important to cultivate children's hands-on ability. Hope that through the process of making dough objects, children's six abilities can be improved: creativity, concentration, cognition, logic, aesthetics and expression skills.
CHALLENGE: The most challenging part is to find the right ergonomic size that can fit the hand size of most children. So we make many models to test the comfort of users. Hope that through the process of making dough sculpting by children, the abilities of art, play, and imagination can be improved.
