| DESIGN NAME: Calorie Buddy PRIMARY FUNCTION: Mobile App INSPIRATION: These days individuals are conscious about wholesome eating. However, food labels are generally too complicated for most shoppers to understand. Consumers feel confused as they do not know the ingredients in their food. Moreover, they experience the pain point of tracking their calories on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: FoodData app is a data-driven resource to help people track and organize healthy foods. This UI emphasizes using infographics to give the user a friendlier and less intimidating calorie application. The UI design steps away from presenting health information in a standard clinical format and employs a more playful approach that users would not dread seeing daily. The avatars changed stature and facial expressions depending on the user’s daily intake. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Calorie Buddy follows the user-centered design principle. For instance, when the user logs into the app, they will have easy access to a camera that they can use to scan food labels and get a detailed infographic indicating all the nutritional elements in the food. The app also helps the user to track their calories on a daily, weekly, or a monthly basis PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2018 and finished in May 2018 in San Francisco. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Create a mobile app that solves a specific problem. This project requires thoughtful research, prototype testing, user testing, and a well-considered user interface and user experience design. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 375px X 667px TAGS: Food Nutrition Infographic RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Spearheaded the design research, conducted five 1-on-1 interviews and 30+ online surveys to identify user pain points. Created user cases and generated 30+ low-fidelity and hi-fidelity mockups, A/B testing. 80% of users who were part of the user testing found the app to be highly effective. CHALLENGE: For designing this app, the research challenge is to understand complicated food nutrition knowledge, as well as simplify that into an easy to understand infographic visual system.
