DESIGN NAME: Lei
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Non Electric Aroma Diffuser
INSPIRATION: Lei functions by the usage of Seeback effect. Witnessing first-hand the mass production of home appliances, we have always implored to produce a sustainable product in terms of recyclable material and how it generates electricity, fully utilizing this effect. Therefore, the usage of Seeback effect completely reverses the rule of appliances to rely on electrical outlets to operate. It also became the key factor that shaped both form and function.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Lei is an ultimately sustainable aroma diffuser, powering electricity by the heat of a candle instead of power source. It is an entirely selfsufficient product patented for its innovative mechanism which redefines existing home appliances. The generated electricity creates a gentle breeze that allows volatilized aroma to permeate a space. Its minimalist design made from recyclable materials, cordless mobility, and low maintenance usability guarantees great functionality.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The concept and execution of Lei reinforces our company ethics of being greatly aware of our products environmental lifespan, through both manufacturing and upcycling, as well as raising questions about the industrys sustainability issues. By limiting our materials to aluminum, iron and glass all recyclable materials, we ensure that even after the products life is over, everything, even packaging can be recycled. It also stands as an important hint for future home appliances which function with electricity without using an electric power source.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Leis minimal form stems from the premise that it does not need to rely on a power source. It is powered by the temperature difference in the metal, supplied by the candle heat which creates ventilation and aroma volatilization. While considering its functional form, we also prioritised the user emotional engagement with the design gazing at the flame, feeling the gentle breeze, smelling the aroma fragrance. Every aspect is crucial such as the glass cylindrical dome which efficiently raises the heat of the flame, the optimal gap above the dome and the single blade fan to introduce oxygen, and the oval shape for heat dissipation.

CHALLENGE: This is the first product that we have developed entirely from scratch, including material selection. Lei reinforces our company ethics of being greatly aware of our products environmental lifespan, through both manufacturing and upcycling. While most appliances rely on electrical outlets to operate, Lei goes against the grain. Lei is completely selfsufficient; generating electricity, ventilating air and aroma, it redefines the category of home appliances.
