DESIGN NAME: Fck 2020
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Calendar
INSPIRATION: 2020 has been a painful year for the whole planet. The world of communication and marketing itself has suffered terribly. Brands have lost faith in the future, suspended in a paralyzed market. What wish could we address them in sight of the new year? To turn the page with a smile, thanks to the power of imagination, words and a good amount of irony. One month after another, twelve small and big wishes are told by a polychrome and modernist graphic design and by minimal illustrations.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A special 2021 calendar that celebrates the arrival of the new year by mocking the damned 2020. It has been sent in December to our current and potential customers. It's a table calendar in the form of a leporello. Thanks to its converting invention it can be kept flat and browsed like a book or standing on your desk in the shape of a circle or the most varied forms. 12 months of colors, dreams, small and big desires enclosed in a limited edition design object.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We looked for an eye catching combination of graphic, visual e structural elements capable to reach a highly heterogeneous audience. We chose a prestigious but sustainable paper and a printing solution in order to minimize the impact on the environment, keep quality hight and costs down. We created a Leporello structure because we wanted it to be a three-dimensional object, capable of assuming many forms. We had a quick customer response and a great media coverage collecting articles on newspapers and design blogs.
CHALLENGE: We chose digital printing to keep costs down. However, to achieve the same quality as other techniques, with solid blacks, uniform color fields and durability, we had to try various papers before finding the one that met our needs. The large dimensions of the unfolded calendar and the numerous creasing forced us to divide the structure into three parts, then assembled by hand piece by piece, obviously taking into account the direction of the fiber and limiting the waste of paper to a minimum.
