| DESIGN NAME: Alchemist Cafe PRIMARY FUNCTION: Restaurant INSPIRATION: Al fayoum Oasis comes from the imagination after reading the famous novel The Alchemist, which is the beginning of the brand story. The story is about an Andalusian shepherd boy, started his journey to find the treasure in his heart. This cafe has this story as background and aim to gather all the travel lovers from every corner of the world, and this newly designed cafe is a stop at Al fayoum Oasis. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The alchemist cafe is a branched cafe with unique theme of travelling to attracts travel lovers to gather. The alchemist cafe serves a space for all guests to read and share travel books in a warm and relaxed environment. The space also serves as a culture exchange and art performance stage for local artist. With the design concept Al fayoum Oasis, where you could think of natural forest in Egypt to immerse the mind into the peace and relax your body and soul. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The upfront bar shows the design character of restaurant and catching the eye of people passing by. Pathways across the dining zone mobilizes the interaction to facility the catering services and enhance dining experience. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Started in November, 2020 and finished in January, 2021 in Hong Kong FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Interior Space and Exhibition Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Large glass with transparent patterns sits next to the door to let the light coming through. The patterns form a little forest, bringing livelihood. Diurnal cycle happened in this little indoor forest due to lights from outside. Various colour and texture of stones spark the design details and enrich the element of cultivating the indoor forest. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Interior area 1700 sf TAGS: Alchemist, oasis, alfayoum, natural, travel RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research on the use of different lighting technique to realize the forest. Recorded the different moments of oasis to replicate lifetime changes for analytic. Repeated testing the mix and match effect of all elements, including materials, lights, etc to create holiday excitement for diner and to bring them to fairyland in the book The Alchemist. CHALLENGE: Building a holiday paradise in confined space is impossible? Designers make a colourful success by connecting the restaurant and the outer area in the mall. This also amplified the visual space to make it more spacious. Minimize the use of walls in zoning, apply light tone and maximize the use of glass create the forest for diner to feel like travel.
