| DESIGN NAME: Liangdian Deshengmen PRIMARY FUNCTION: Office INSPIRATION: The original intention of architectural renovation was to contrast with the surrounding massive constructions through light and transparent glass. When night falls, one can clearly see, from the slow-paced river walk and the fast-paced second ring road, a shiny crystal box endowed with new life when the lights are turned on. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This cultural and creative office building is located on the east side of Deshengmen (one of the nine gates in Beijing from the Ming and Qing Dynasties), on the central north second ring road, facing the city moat. Desheng means winning by virtue in Chinese. According to ancient legends about stars, the north has the virtue of a black tortoise, which takes charge of weapons. So fighting troops usually left the city from the north gate. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: As this is a office, its operation remains in the hand of the property management of the client. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The lighting design part of the project started in December 2018 in Beijing, China and the completion time in September 2019. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The lighting design emphasizes on atmosphere creation and conveys comfortable, quiet and soft feeling with warm lighting color temperature. As night falls, lights give new life to this renovated building. Through the glass curtain wall, the interior lights reveal the building structure and renew its vitality. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: LED linear light (Power 9.6W/M beam angle: 120 degree 3000k color rendering index: above 80) LED recessed downlight(Power 13W beam angle: 30 degree 3000k color rendering index: above 90) TAGS: LDPi, Lighting Design Partnership International, China, Beijing, Liangdian, Deshengmen RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Site administration was an important step in the realization of the entire project. The lighting fixtures recommended to the customer included detailed information such as beam angles, wattage and color temperature, installation details... CHALLENGE: After entering the lobby, visitors can view a floating artwork Endless Loop on the north side of the front shadow wall. This artwork is part of the Endless Loop series from the Concavo Convex Contemporary Installation Art Exhibition of artist Liu Hao. Mr. Liu is a young artist who enjoys exploring the combination between traditional aesthetics, natural beings and contemporary art with stainless steel and other materials. The lobby uses track lights not only to focus on Endless Loop, but also providing a functional lighting with layers of light and shadow.
