DESIGN NAME: The Lupin Pavilion
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential Building
INSPIRATION: The lupin flower, mother of flowers, has been nourishing the soil of tea farms for Taiwan Hakka tribes for decades. Besides being the namesake of the project, patterns throughout the interior are inspired by the unique flower. The natural acacia trees from the land have been transformed as a reception desk in the lobby. The roots support the tabletop and carry memories of the mountain forest. Furthermore, remnants of historical red brick kiln smoke stacks dot the Longtan landscape. These striking silhouettes influenced the facade and warm color palette.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Posamo Design is calling it Post-Pandemic Architectural Style. The New Normal of a post-Covid-19 era was heavily considered. The Lupin Pavilion offers low density occupancy. The 50 households share 7 smart pandemic preventative elevators with state-of-the-art ventilation systems and hand gesture capabilities to limit touch points. All of this while still offering spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Each residence also has a private mudroom which acts as a buffer helping to keep your home safe and clean.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The public space is flexible enough to accommodate a variety of uses while maintaining a cohesive connection between people. Valuing community interactions yet considering personal space by keeping separate entrances. The banquet hall is open and connected to the lobby during the week and when a private event is being hosted sliding dividers are used to create an exclusive space. Every residence is equipped with a mudroom at the entrance, where residents can leave their shoes, jackets, etc. and disinfect for sanitary purposes before entering their home.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Initial concept and design started in early 2020.
Construction period: 2020.12 - 2023.12
Location: Longtan District, Taoyuan, Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: With an emphasis on safety, cleanliness, and multi-function, Posamo Design and 33 Mega are not only looking to state-of-the-art technology to assist them, but also mother nature. The 7 innovative pandemic preventative elevators utilize hand gestures to limit touch points as well as being equipped with high-tech ventilation systems. The underground parking lot is EV charger compatible and easily installed at a residents request. Finally, the 3 residential towers have been strategically placed atop a plateau to take advantage of the panoramic views and excellent air flow.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The Lupin Pavilion consists of 3 towers, each ten floors tall, underground parking, infinity pool, and sits on a site of 4172 sq. meters overlooking the mountains and valleys below. The 50 households share 7 smart elevators highlighted by the lupin pavilion elevator which rises out of the infinity pool revealing spectacular views.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The Longtan District in Taoyuan, Taiwan has a rich history that inspired the designers. The red brick kilns and acacia trees hearken back to an era of brick making in Taiwan’s plateau region. Longtan is also the birthplace of the father of Taiwanese folk music, Yu-Hsien Teng, whose song, Four Seasons Red, can be heard in the elevator lobby. The trailblazer of Taiwan’s Nativist Literature Movement, Chao-Cheng Chung, was also a native of Longtan. His stories inspired the lobby artwork. Patterns of lupin flowers and the nearby Longtan Lake are also design elements used throughout the project.
CHALLENGE: Social distancing has become the new normal for much of the world. The biggest challenge was creating a peaceful and welcoming space while maintaining a safe sanitary environment that was versatile. All while still providing residents with a luxury experience they can rely on. The geography of the site also presents some unique challenges; perched atop a plateau. The design team looked to technology and nature for answers to some of these difficult questions.
