DESIGN NAME: Ryujin
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Illustration
INSPIRATION: Ryujin which in some traditions is equivalent to Owatatsumi was the tutelary deity of the sea in Japanese mythology. In many versions, Ryujin had the ability to transform into a human shape. many believed the god had knowledge of medicine and many considered him as the bringer of rain and thunder. This design is made based on traditional Japanese dragon imagery but we decide to come up with our own concept look based on our imagination, style, and aesthetics
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The illustration was made from scratch and aside from the main subject of the artwork, the background features Japanese-inspired waves that represent the character. It's a minimal design with a greater focus on details.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This illustration is printed on shirts and other merchandise, They can wear it for fashion or can be used just for regular outfits every day.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project was started in August 2020 and finished in September 2020 in Pampanga, Philippines.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We started generating ideas by creating some sketches of the concept by using Procreate on iPad, Illustrator is used for applying the vector linework, shadings, and colors. Photoshop then is used for final touches

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: For this illustration, We researched more about the Historical Japanese Culture, and I also looked into the background of this character. Based on Japanese traditional art style, we combined our style and different ways to put this design together to show why this character is one powerful being.
CHALLENGE: Our challenge for this particular design aside from the output quality is how we make the audience feel the power of this character based on the stories, myth of Japanese culture, We put our best to portray an aggressive-looking subject combined with different elements.
