PRIMARY FUNCTION: Window Cleaning Robot
INSPIRATION: The initial idea of a window cleaning robot was born when Mr. Chao(George) was exhausted by the chores of cleaning the windows. He not only has the vision and enthusiasm to make people’s lives better but also the capability to put the idea into practice.
In 2010, the world’s first window cleaning robot was born, this is the predecessor of Hobot388. HOBOT team takes the inspiration from chores, integrating biotechnology, electronics engineering, and mechanical design to make Hobot388.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Relying on the vacuum suction power to attach to the window, Hobot388 can move freely with two cleaning wheels and mimic the human hand gesture to clean the window. Hobot388 also equips an ultrasonic water spray nozzle that nebulizes 15μm mists water like the effect of human exhale on the window to bring the best cleaning result.
Besides, Hobot388 is the best cleaning solution for large and/or outdoor windows with the extension power cord to ensures the safety and user's convenience.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Hobot388 is easy to set up, just wrap the cleaning rings with the cleaning cloth, then attach it to the device, finally press the quick-start button, and place it on the window to get it to work.
When attached to the window surface, Hobot388 will climb up on until detecting the top of the window frame, then perform auto-clean in rotating and zigzag way from top to bottom.
In case there is a power outage, Hobot388 will stop automatically, play alert, and flash red and blue light to warn the user.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in 2018 in Taiwan and exhibited at IFA Berlin in 2019, and was launched in December 2019.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Robots have gotten to the point where they can help people to do chores and handle dangerous tasks.
After researches in kinetic modeling and calculation of friction factor, 3D modeling, mockup, and prototyping, a robotic window cleaner embedded with an automatic water spray function was developed to clean the windows.
With so much effort in it, Hobot388 is recognized for its outstanding performance and the benefit to life.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge is to execute vertical cleaning tasks against gravity.
Beyond gravity, we put much effort into enhancing the operation reliability and safety.
Third, to help people reduce the housework burden, the excellent cleaning effect is also one of the goals we achieved.
