DESIGN NAME: The Door of One’s Heart
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Necklace
INSPIRATION: The work revolves around the theme of love. According to the two classic shapes of heart and door, two doors are rotated and opened to form a heart inspiring the emotional connection between people. The product is cleverly combined with a new bearing structure to trigger the moment of emotion by opening the heart. It will be an emotional expression or emotional need to achieve the best balance of business value from the complex to the simple.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Made of 18K gold, diamonds and enamel, the element is composed of two classic symbols. The product tries to reflect the sense with the most simplified lines, and uses dynamic forms to express the emotional collision in the product design. Open the love door and walk with the light.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The main body of the necklace is formed with two layers of door shape pieces. Hold your finger on the back door and move it to the right to get a heart, meaning open the door of one’s heart. The inside is set with a fine buckle, which can be fixed at a perfect angle of 90°. The necklace can be worn in two forms and has its unique beauty and meaning in either way.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The necklace was designed in March 2020 in Hangzhou, China.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Necklace in gold 18K with diamonds and enamel technique, diamonds 0.11ct. CNC machine tool is used during process. A new bearing structure is created inside the necklace, providing a function of 90-degree spin, which makes two forms of necklace. The design was visualized in MatrixGold and KeyShot 9.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Before designing the pendant, the doors of different styles and periods were studied. While exploring how to relate the door to the meaning of happiness, it gradually evolved into the door of heart and simplified the shape. This project is very meaningful. It conveys good faith through commercial design. It is simple, profound, comfortable and durable.
CHALLENGE: Through extensive research on the luxury jewelry market, how to balance the artistic and commercial value, how to give the product a profound emotional significance, how to symbolize the brand to create a classic and sustainable upgrading product, how to achieve novelty and be suitable for daily wearing, meet these points will be the most challenging part of business design.
