DESIGN NAME: X Skier
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Indicated Direction Helmet
INSPIRATION: Under the designer's investigation, the design of this intelligent helmet is very scarce in the market, and the safety of this smart helmet is much better than other helmets. Therefore, this innovative design is in high demand in the market. The function and appearance of the design are incredibly innovative and strictly follow the current trend. Besides, X Skier also has a high market share and business value on the market.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: After interviewing 50 ski enthusiasts, a severe painpoint about skiing experience and safety concerns was found.
When people ski, the skiers in the back cannot see the skiers' direction in front. Sometimes the sudden change of direction makes it easy for two skiers to collide. So a smart ski helmet with a power sensor indicator was designed. When the user tends to move left and right, the indicator light on the back will automatically indicate the direction to the skier in the back, and then they can avoid a collision in time.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: X-Skier is an outdoor ski helmet that combines recreation and safety protection. The side ear is equipped with bluetooth communication device. Users can press the metal button in the ear to play or pause music, make phone calls and make emergency calls if necessary. The direction indicator in the rear can effectively remind the skiers behind or on the skier's side of the user's direction by changing the brightness, position, and color, preventing a collision. If the user's speed or direction is very abnormal, the rear indicator will issue an abnormal warning. Indicator light color and flashing frequency enter the emergency state. Ear Bluetooth communication device automatically alarm to ensure the safety of users.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2018 in LAFA Industrial Design Studio and finished in May 2020 in the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Industrial Design in LAFA.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This design is shaped by CNC machining technology and metal 3D printing technology, using PC, rubber, and metal as main materials. There is motion tracking technology used on the back of the helmet.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: With the development of technology, people pay more and more attention to the quality of life. X Skier's design focused on the snow sports intelligence interconnection technology innovation to meet users' needs for communication and rescue in sports. The design adopts the modular design method, optimize the function of the helmet structure arrangement, and better meet the needs of equipment when people are skiing.
CHALLENGE: The challenge of the design is the innovative method of this helmet. The technology and idea of this design was found. Still, it was not sure how to integrate each part of this helmet. After a certain number of sketching and discussing the project, finally, the proper selections which achieve the desired effect was found.
