DESIGN NAME: Birds and Coffee
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Packaging
INSPIRATION: I immediately thought of biology theme as a common thread among the nine coffee regions represented. After some sketching we've decided to use bird illustrations. The inspiration was found in a vintage biology books, birdwatcher's guides and botanical magazines and publications that describe the wide variety of species of each country.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project manifests the craftsmanship of coffee roasters by providing the handmade look of the packaging that shows the birds of each country. The dark brown color of the illustrations gives a unique feeling to the product.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The main communication flow between the customer and a coffee roaster is through their online shop. We aimed for new customers who value quality coffee and care about it's origin. In this case the visual communication comes to the front line and the nice packaging is crutial for the better understanding of the product value.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project took about 2,5monts : it was started on March 2020 and was finnished by the end May.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The packaging design creates value added to a product which has major influence on customers purchasing decision process especially at the point of purchase. Visual research was started by investigating the other producer's offer in the same niche of coffee roasters in Lituanian market.
My vision was based on moodboards of different graphic images and typography styles that helped to define the main design solutions. All The birds chosen for the packaging represent each country, are simple but at the same time elegant ant memorable.
CHALLENGE: It wasn't very challenging to create this packaging, The main challenge was to find the right postures of the birds and a balance of illustration style, that will be bold but still elegant. And also it was important that they will look sharp when printed on kraft paper bag.
