| DESIGN NAME: Wavee PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Toothbrush INSPIRATION: Wavee offers two functions in the same body: an electric toothbrush and a bluetooth speaker. The main inspiration in this project is to add music to the users' daily routines starting from the bathroom. The product would also fit perfectly to the houses with limited space. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Wavee works double duty in the bathroom – The first is an electric toothbrush that provides effective teeth cleaning through a powerful three-speed motor and sonic wave brush head. The second is an accompanying smart speaker charging base that delivers rich, amplified sound that enhances the user’s experience. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The toothbrush can be controlled by a single button which cycles through different vibration patterns. The sound system has various buttons on top to control the bluetooth connectivity, to increase/decrease the volume level and to switch between different modes. The user can connect the speaker by mobile phone to control the music streaming. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project started in April 2019 and finished in February 2020 in Hong Kong. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The body of the toothbrush is made of ABS plastic. The speaker grille is made of stainless steel to improve the durability. The toothbrush can be charged via wireless charging technology. The motor inside the toothbrush can provide up to 48000 rpm power. The output power for the speaker is 25 W. The device has IPX 5 water-resistance to avoid water splashes and shower steam. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 115 mm x Depth 115 mm x Height 278.5 mm TAGS: audio, personal care, toothbrush, multifunctional, bluetooth, music, speaker, bathroom RESEARCH ABSTRACT: According to the research the average time that both men and women spend in the bathroom every day is at least 30 minutes. Based on the interviews with the participants, the first 10 minutes of their morning routine can dictate the rest of the day. Studies showed that listening to music has numerous benefits - including improving the overall mood, lowered stress levels, increased productivity and strengthening brain skills like learning and memory. CHALLENGE: The product is a combination of two individual devices: a toothbrush and a speaker system. Each device is used individually so they should have a certain design style when they are being used by the user. On the other hand, when the toothbrush is parked on the speaker, the set should look complete. The hardest part of the project was to create a complete design style while preserving the individual aspects and characteristics of each product.
