DESIGN NAME: Camellia
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Restaurant
INSPIRATION: In terms of color, the use of different shades of pink is coming from the brand "Camellia".
Thinking of the nickname of Paris - Floral City, the restaurant is wrapped by Camellia flower in different forms with respect to the brand and cuisine. Inspiring by the Galerie des glaces in Château de Versailles, using lots of mirrors to spread the flower walls by reflection while extending space and the Roman arch is also widely used as an element to enhance the feeling of being in France.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Camellia, representing elegant, pure love, sexy, cute, pretty and tough, is used to name such a romantic girly café.
The interior design is in loft, modern and French style, responding to the brand itself as well as the design of the mall. The restaurant is surrounded by pink flower walls, echoes with the black tone with gold trim, mirror, and Arc, like a flower festival in Paris, the Floral City. The color of pink is extensively used in pretty much everything as a theme for brand identification, such as flower wall, marble table, chair & bench, napkin, coffee, noodle soup, and even the toilet. Also, the shades of different pink and shape of chairs and benches actually render the petals of Camilla and some walls are finished by antique mirrors for extending space and spreading the flower walls of pink by reflection. Nowadays, Camellia has now become one of the famous spots for Instagram in Hong Kong already.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Many types of seat are created to cater different groups and guests with different personality and habit; Bench seat for 4 next to glass with Camellia pattern, the round bench in front of a flower wall for Instagramming, semi-private bench seat with arch cover, semi-open room for 8, movable tables by the feature wall, outdoor seats facing victoria harbor, a private room for 14 and party space of capacity of 32 with a TV screen for the events and press conference.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project is located in K11 Musea, Kowloon, Hong Kong. The design was started in April 2019, the 1st phase of construction was finished in August 2019 and the extension was designed in September and completed in October, 2019.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In terms of production, the pattern of the mirror and the wall are also custom-made. For materials, The color of the marble for making the tables is naturally pink and purposely sourced. The project was also built in two phases, an extension including the kitchen that was not originally planned is added after the restaurant had been operating for a month. In such a case, the license will need to be reapplied, the design needs to be adapted to the old and the layout will need to be resubmitted due to the law in Hong Kong.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: -
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge in the project is to create a new landmark for Instagram, a practical and functional layout in terms of operation with beauty, and to be completed with valid license in a few months from scratch before the grand opening of the most luxurious mall.
