DESIGN NAME: Morning Dew
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Regenerated Ring
INSPIRATION: According to UNEP, an average of 1 ton of ordinary electronic waste contains 490 kg of metal. If not recycled, it will cause a huge waste of resources. The most commonly used pyrometallurgical technology for disposal of electronic waste will produce toxic gases, such as fluorocarbons, bromine flame retardants and organic compounds, which tend to generate dioxins under oxidation conditions. In recent years, the solid-phase extraction method has less solvent consumption, simple reaction and fast speed. However, waste of liquid of this technology has become a problem in treatment process.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The ring was designed with a focus on materials. In designing the "morning dew", an original and greener method of recovering precious metals is used to prepare regenerated gold and silver as materials. The preparation method is simply to use an amine-containing porous material to adsorb selected metal ions, and to achieve reuse of the treatment liquid in the treatment process, so as to recover precious metals by more environmentally friendly methods.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The design of “morning dew " ring focuses on the material, which is made of regenerated gold and silver by a greener way of recovering precious metals. Based on this material, a ring with the shape of dew, wrapped by vines, is designed. A scrap circuit board is much more valuable than a gold mine of the same quality in terms of gold proportion. Therefore, reuse of electronic waste is not receiving enough attention but worth of attention and implementation. It is hoped that the design of "morning dew" will provide guidance of reducing resource waste and promoting resource recovery.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in Beijing in 2018, applied for a technology patent in early 2019, and was completed in 2019.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The original green precious metal recovery method is to copolymerize 4,4 '- (hexachloroisopropyl) bisphenol with melamine in alkaline solution, the obtained amine-containing porous material can absorb selected metal ions in the solution, and the treatment liquid can be reused to reduce the production of waste water. The material used in “morning dew " is made entirely from this extraction method.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Through many experiments and comparative analysis, it is concluded that the dehydration reaction temperature of the material used for regenerating metal is 136-140 celsius degree, the reaction time is 3-5 hours, and when the time is less than 3 hours, the polycondensation is incomplete and the yield is low.
CHALLENGE: The molar ratio of cyanamide to hexachlorophenol A is from 3:1.9 to 3: 2.2. Whenthe molar ratio is less than 3:1.9 or more than 3:2.2, the yield is significantly reduced. This characteristic is obtained through numerous experiments. In order to design a metal method with more high-yield regeneration, much efforts and experiments must be made.
