| DESIGN NAME: Grundig Serenity PRIMARY FUNCTION: Tea Maker INSPIRATION: The inspiration of the project comes from retro/futuristic style combined with Scandinavian simplicity. I aimed to design an aesthetically noticeable product combined with joyful user-experience. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Serenity is a contemporary tea maker that focuses on joyful user-experience. The project mostly focuses on aesthetic elements and user experience as the main aim suggests product to be different from the existing products. The dock of the tea maker is smaller than the body which allows product to look over the ground that brings unique identity. Slightly curved body combined with sliced surfaces also supports the unique identity of the product. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The lower section is for boiling water it stands on the dock which connects to power. Upper section is for tea. The interaction point of the product is the lower handle. Led dots on the handle gives feedback to the user about the operation. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2019 and finished in May 2019. The project is an internship project that took place when working for Arçelik Group in Istanbul/Turkey. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: • Body: Polypropylene(PP) / Injection Moulding • Handle, lid and dock: Xenoy (PBT+PC) / Injection Moulding SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 173mm(max.) x 250mm(max.) x 260mm TAGS: Tea Maker, Contemporary, Minimal, Simple, Home Appliances, Grundig RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The project was mostly focused on aesthetic elements and user-experience. The research was focused on user-experience, working principles for tea makers, components but mostly it was sketch modeling. I needed to make lots of sketches to find the most simple and unique form solutions. Literature reviews about user-experience made in detail to be able to apply good solutions regarding consumers. I had to make lots of conversations with engineers that allowed me to design the product considering production and electronics. Also focus groups made supported with interface mock-ups to get feedback from tea maker users. CHALLENGE: Finding the unique and simple form for the product was the most challenging but at the same time most joyful part for me. I had to make too many sketch models and mock-ups to refine the design language to make it as simple as possible.
