| DESIGN NAME: Eco-jew and Decorative Objects PRIMARY FUNCTION: Jewelry INSPIRATION: The pieces were developed with the idea of reusing the cardboard roll of toilet paper discarded daily. The hole cycle is sustainable, from materials to production. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Cardboard jewerly and decorative objects made in Brazil by Oficina de Papel, a social inclusion project that serves the population with mental disabilities and social vulnerability. The pieces were developed by the designer and architect Roberta Sa Faustini with the idea of reusing the cardboard roll of toilet paper discarded daily. They are also made by recycled paper produced by Oficina de Papel. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It was because of a nuisance - the garbage we make every day - that the first piece of what is now a line of Eco-jewelry and paper objects was born. This first bracelet was made with the reuse of the toilet paper roll tube. I wanted the whole cycle to be sustainable, from material to production, and I went after a social project. The production is all make by Oficina de Papel, an institution that serves low-income people with mental illness and vulnerability. They also make colorful recycled craft papers. Together we managed to do this work with purpose. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2013. The first bracelet was finished a few months after that. Since then, a lot of new pieces were developed, as new bracelets, necklaces and decorative objects as table and wall necklaces, paper chains. This piece won an honorable mention in the Brazilian Object Award at the A Casa Museum. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: They are all made manually with reuse of toilet paper roll and handmade recycled paper, with cutting technique. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: There are small pieces as bracelets and necklaces, that measure: Bracelets: 60mm x 10mm x 60mm or 20mm x 20mm x 60mm Necklaces: 15mm x15mm x 400mm or 20mm x 20mm x 300mm And big pieces as decorative objects that can mesure 40mm x 40mm x 4000mm. TAGS: Ecojew, Paper Jewelry, Jewelry, Cardboard Jewelry, Paper Decorative objects, table necklace, Paper Chain RESEARCH ABSTRACT: It was thinking about how do reuse a material that is discarded every day in the whole world that the first piece of what is now a collection of paper jewelry and decorative objects was born. This first bracelet was made with the reuse of the toilet paper roll tube. I wanted the whole cycle to be sustainable, from material to production, and I research about social projects. CHALLENGE: The great challenge was to give a new meaning to a material such as the toilet paper roll. How to make eco-jewelry and decorative objects that please the eyes and are beautiful pieces. NAME: Roberta Sa Faustini PROFILE: Roberta Sá Faustini is an architect graduated in 2000 from FAU Mackenzie. Works with design of furniture and objects. Its design is of simple lines, where all the pieces are full of functionality. Many of your creations don't need nails, screws or glue, just folds, fittings and supports. It seeks sustainable solutions in its work, giving priority to recyclable, recycled or reused materials. With this concept of reusing materials that would go to waste, the cardboard of the roll of toilet paper became a super modern bracelet. (Awarded at the Brazilian Object Award at the A Casa Museum). From this project, a line of eco-jewelry and paper objects was born, sustainable work from material to shape. All production made by the NOT Oficina de Papel (core of workshops and work) of Armazém das Oficinas, a social inclusion project for work that serves the low-income population with mental illness and vulnerability. Today with a young son, he has some projects aimed at children. With a line of objects, toys and furniture. The DescArte Workshop project gives art tips and ideas and games for children to make from the disposal of materials. The Vira e mexe furniture line won the Salão Design 2020 award, in the professional category - challenge of changing spaces. |
